Social Eating

Do you ever eat just to be social?

Are you fat?

Well, there you go!

houston 09-03-2014 10:01 AM

Is that why you're fat?

I've already established that I need to repent.

First get a bicycle and go race some Mormon missionaries and convert people before they do.

Then kill the carbs bro, start eating animals, lesson the grains, have a nice steak, smothered in onions and bacon! No white rice, no white potato, but replace with sweet potato, dripping in raw butter!

Thanks for the advice.

I actually don't have a bad diet. My meds have caused me to gain weight. I suspect that many use that as a crutch but I have gained alot really fast. I go to the gym.

However, I think I will take you up on your suggestion on the steak! I got a couple in the freezer.

You know what would be even better than steak and onions?

Liver and onions!

The last social eating situation I found myself in, I limited myself to one taco and a drink.

I watched others eat and drink and wondered to myself, "Will they ever repent?"

Re: Social Eating

It's called moderation. Nothing wrong with eating until you're full. The sin is gluttony, when you eat past the point of being full.

I think my satire and sarcasm are lost on most of you guys.

My brand of humor is dry borderline not humorous for most to properly appreciate.

Maybe I'll work on it.

Maybe I'll lose some weight too.

I need to go back to cutting down on the carbs. I had cut carbs for a month...eating as much meats and green veggies as I wanted and lost over 30 pounds. It was hard at first because you tend to really crave those carbs (I love bread. lol) but after a couple weeks the cravings go away. I think I'm going to give it another try. Are there any good carbs that can be combined with the meats and veggies? I know that cutting them out completely causes your body to go into Ketosis...is that a bad thing or is it safe? Anyone know about this? Any advice is appreciated.

By the way..I know I am fat so noone needs to point that out. LOL I tend to drink more calories than eat though. I had a major addiction to Pepsi and would easily drink my daily calories per day. I stopped drinking soda and other sugary drinks a few months ago and lost 15 pounds without even changing my eating habits...but now it's time to change the food choices also. Love the carbs too much. lol

Kiwi fruit is a very beneficial fruit and I find satisfying my sweet tooth with certain fruits to be much healthier than candy.

So after your steak and asparagus dinner, have a kiwi smoothie!

Your calories you think you are taking in by drinking Pepsi are actually empty calories.

Empty Calorie Beverages

Drinking your calories can add up fast throughout a day’s time period. Soda and sugar-sweetened beverages are a huge contributor to the excess sugar in many individuals’ diets. From your morning coffee with added syrup, a mid-morning pick me up with a soda, lemonade with lunch, sweet tea for dinner and a few glasses of juice before bed can add thousands of empty calories to your diet. It is important to understand the portion size and to consume few sugar sweetened beverages.

The portion size is an important thing to look at on beverages just like it is on food products. It is important to note the serving size. Most drinks contain more than one serving so you have to double or triple the calories and sugar on the nutrient facts label if you drink the whole container. The average soft drink is at least 20 ounces and contains 250 calories, which is equivalent to 15 teaspoons of sugar. Many people drink four to five 20 ounce soft drinks a day which can contribute to 1,250 calories from sugar alone. It only takes 3,500 extra calories to gain a pound so this could easily contribute to a gain of a pound or two a week. Choosing water or sugar free beverages sweetened with artificial sweeteners versus soda, juice and sweet tea can be one step to drastically cut calories in the diet.

Often times the sugar content of juice is overlooked because it is good for you, although an 8 ounce glass of juice can contain 8 teaspoons worth of sugar and around 130 calories. The consumption of multiple glasses of juice can easily contribute to excess calories. Juice does not contain fiber like the whole fruit. Eating the whole fruit will help with portion control, you are less likely to eat three apples where you might easily consume three servings of juice in one sitting. Therefore, choose whole fruit like an apple versus apple juice. The fiber will increase satiety making it less likely to over consume and the whole fruit provides more vitamins and minerals than the juice.

Yet, don't get me wrong, while these sites give you some information they don't have all the answers. You have to exercise, not just cardiovascular, but weight training and calisthenics. As we get older, our bodies are not as forgiving as when we were younger, and therefore they start to give us problems from our years of abuse and sadly neglect. Eating premium meat, chicken, fish, bison, and venison, good nutrient dense carbs, will not only allow you to lose unneeded weight, but make you feel much better.

Another thing, whatever you do, stay away from Raisin Bran! :heeheehee

I don't care much for Raisin Bran anyway so that is not a problem. LOL (Bran makes me feel bad for some reason) Thanks for all the info..I will check out the sites that you listed. I don't know if it is mentioned in any of those sites but what are some examples of "nutrient dense carbs"?

Oh and you are so right about our bodies not being as forgiving as we get older. Obesity does not run in my family. I am aware that I am this way because of my own bad choices. It's going to be a hard journey for sure. Wish me luck. LOL

I love kiwis...have not had one in ages. I need to see how many carbs are in it though. I was told that I could have oranges and cantaloupe but not sure what other fruits will work. My father-in-law (he lives in Puerto Rico) made for me a Papaya smoothie..now that was yummo. lol

That's cool, just get your mind made up now to eat right and exercise hard, because a hospital gown is drafty with no back. :)

Re: Social Eating

Great advice, EB. (I'm surprised that for once you didn't mention bacon... lol)

Valerie - making these good choices begins with understanding how damaging certain things are that we put into our bodies. One of those things is high fructose corn syrup. Look through your cabinets and see how much food you have that contains that nasty stuff. It is poison for your body.

Eating sweet potatoes is definitely a way to get healthy carbs. There are many good reasons to eat things like coconut, pineapple, chia seeds, quinoa and kale that have been studied and shown to be excellent choices for eating more healthy.

Listen to your body. If you try something, and you feel better, then continue it. If you feel worse, then you need to try something else. Too many times we listen to what has worked for other people, but that does not mean it will work for you.

Good luck, and I think you have already taken one step in the right direction :)

hahahaha they sure are drafty...and I think they keep those rooms cold on purpose. Anyway that is why I want to do something about it now and not wait for a serious illness to occur. Thank you so much for the info. I really appreciate your taking the time to post the links. And thank you for any prayers. I know I will need them. :)

Thank you very much. I have noticed that since I stopped drinking sodas and other sugary drinks that I am not as exhausted. The sugars used to give me energy but lately they just make me tired. Also I sleep better through the night. I will take your advice about paying attention to how I feel after eating different things. I have not even thought about that. Perhaps a food diary will be a good idea. It sure seems like fructose sugar is in the majority of items these days. Also I have started eating more fresh veggies instead of the canned ones. The sodium you save alone is worth the change.

This is interesting concerning the Quinoa in your second link - Quercetin. I've used this supplement for allergies in the past.

Yes, you definitely get more health benefits by eating fresh instead of canned. Just cutting out the high fructose corn syrup in anything you eat will make a big difference, and reducing your sugar intake will help a lot too.
