2014 UPCi General Conference Report

Did any members attend or watch online the 2014 UPCI General Conference this past week? If so we need some reports on the business meetings any resolutions considered or passed and the preaching / teaching sessions.

houston 10-05-2014 11:48 AM

Eh...that would be a neat trick to see the future like that CC1

houston 10-05-2014 04:05 PM

Oh, ha. I didn't see that until now.

Looks like it was a nice corporate conference that raised lots of money and encouraged the faithful to hold on to the corporate culture while doing their best to grow the corporation

LOL! You used to be vehemently virulent as a UPCIer and now you are the same against them.

What's wrong with that? Isn't that the goal of The Church of God? to grow?

I understand there is legitimate criticism of the UPC but sometimes it seems like you guys will attack anything just for sport.

Typical anti-upc post.

houston 10-05-2014 09:37 PM

It takes time to get passed that. It's a stage. Hopefully she'll grow out of it. Some never do.

I went a couple of services they raised better than 4 million dollars for foreign missions.

I was offering a very clinical review of what was posted in the daily reports. I was neither for nor against, but simply breaking all the fluff down to the bottom line. The UPCI is a corporation, an entity that must financially support itself or it will cease to be a corporation. And this corporation's leadership is focused on maintaining the 'corporate culture' above all else.

Wow! That's incredible! Wow! May many millions of souls be led to salvation through their giving!

The word I heard yesterday was that it should be closer to 6 million.

That is great. If one soul is saved by a missionary preaching Jesus and His blood and they are born again it is worth the offering.

The UPCI no longer deducts admin fees from FM monies. 100% goes to the missionary.

So, are you actually trying to claim that you were NOT being condescending?

I was trying to use a little humor but apparently missed. I suppose I need to better my understanding of the language of emoticons. Do you wish for me to be condescending? I am sure I can manage something if that is what you wish.

LOL! Yes, I'm sure you could. And yes, the humor was lost. Although, I don't think you are being honest that you were using humor.

I have been doing an extensive study on Paul and his scriptural references in Romans and Hebrews to the Septuagint. Your post made me think there were more important things going on.

But, mainly, that aside from the standards debate, the UPCI preaches the Gospel message that the Apostles preached. So, you might be in a bit of trouble standing before God someday "persecuting" a group of people on God's side - regardless of being bitter over the standards you don't agree with.

People in every religious faith are on a journey. I started out as a Catholic. Where will I be in 10 or 20 years? Who knows, but aside from reasonable scriptural dialogue, I'm not going to "persecute" any group preaching the Gospel.

That's how I feel about it, anyway.

Humor is in the eye (or funny bone) of the beholder. Dry humor used around a sacred bovine I usually not appreciated by those who worship said bovine. But then this mindset leads to the rest of the comments about 'persecuting' the UPC. Persecuting? Really? Now I do need to find a sarcastic emoticon because disagreeing with certain aspects of any group's beliefs is not 'persecution', unless you belong to a nightmare like ISIS and behead everybody who isn't exactly like you. And then finally there's the tired old 'bitter' judgment call. Whatever. Now I can say I've been on both sides of that, too.

Well - I have very strong ties to the UPCI, I have read many of the posts made by Roxanne as well as P.O.

I have to say that the emoticons did not come across to me like they did to P.O. and Houston. I guess it's all in the perspective we have. Everyone sees things differently sometimes. ???
