I practice tithing. I see no problem with it.... unless.

You quoted Malachi to show that a curse comes on people when they do not tithe.

That was true before the cross.

Not now.

Galatians 3:10-13 KJV For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. (11) But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. (12) And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. (13) Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

Any curse under Law was taken by Jesus. So, to get away from a curse, paying tithes won't do it, but coming into the New Covenant will.

So if you still say tithing removes a curse since the cross, then you have just replaced the work of the cross with paying tithes.

Our ability to pay tithes can't replace the work Jesus did on the cross to remove the curse! Woohoo! God won't let the glory go to us by our tithing.

Financial bondage is a mindset more than it is the work of the devil. When we realize and so live according to the principle that our life is a vapor and naked we came in and naked we go out, and that a man's soul is not bound up in the things which he possesses, to have or not have money in this world at any level just doesn't matter anymore.

So, let's forget about the devil and concentrate on the real enemy: the flesh.

God supplies all our needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. We just have to learn how to be abased, and how to abound, in whatever season of life we are in.

Godliness with contentment is great gain.

I also agree that if you are in debt, you are in bondage. Been there, done that.

A church should operate debt-free. Let the post come now.

Growing up, anytime something on the car would break down, my mom would ask "are you paying your tithes?" I never accepted a connection between not paying tithes and a car breaking down, and I still don't.

I respectfully don't agree with this. I believe things happen in life, whether it's because of dumb decisions we make, God trying our faith or just plain life.

I do not believe in curses, especially on a child of God. The devil cannot curse those whom God has blessed. I don't believe any curse falls on children of God, whether it is financial, health, job or a generational curse. The blood of Christ has defeated the curse.

The reason Christians may be financially bound, and burdened is because they are too busy paying a tithing tax, and supporting a pastor and his lavish lifestyle (I've seen it many, many times, and I know there are exceptions, but this is generally what we have observed) and not practicing true Christian NT giving.

Giving is not a tax. We give to others because we love the Lord, and not because we are afraid of losing out on our salvation. Giving is not giving unless it is done out of a heart that wants to please the Lord by loving and helping our neighbor. Paying 10% because you are scared to not do it, and that you might lose your salvation is a tax, and it is not giving.

Also, when you truly give - you expect nothing back in return. When you tithe, at the end of the year, you receive a charitable contribution form, which you then turn in to the IRS, and receive most of what you contributed removed from your taxes. How is this free, no-strings-attached giving? It's not. Tithing as set up today by the churches is a tax, and it is not true giving.

We give generously in ways that are not tracked by a charitable form. We no longer claim any charitable giving on our taxes. We give without leaving a money trail. True giving gives without expecting a return. Whether we suffer financially, or whether we are blessed financially, it matters not. Life happens - it rains on the just and unjust. We give because we love the Lord, not because we expect to receive something in return.

Tithing is the work and teaching of men who are unwilling to trust the Lord with their finances. Teach giving, and then.... you will see the windows of heaven opened. Teach people to give unto the Lord, using the 10% guideline if they must have one... but never attach the teaching of tithing to a curse.... that is a false doctrine never embraced by the NT church, but embraced by men who wanted to financially secure their lifestyle.
