Do you mark your Bible?
 

I've marked my Bible using a topical color-code since the early 80's. I've tried different marking tools. I'm currently using Crayola colored pencils in my Cambridge wide margin. Anyone else here mark their Bibles? Do you have a specific method or favorite tools? Do you mark it for preaching / teaching?

when I was a young Christian I tried marking my bible, it ended up all written up and marked up a big mess. after that I quit marking the bible, I did not want a completely messy bible.

I've always written "foot-print" notes in the margins of my Bibles (references to others passages, personal thoughts, opinions, etc.).

I have 2 bibles for particular use....1 for teaching SFT ONLY(specific formatted side notes to direct students as they read and narration reminders for me). This way I can do a lesson with very little preparation.(after work or in a moments notice)

I use the other one for reading and random doctrinal notes for when I am asked questions.

Not anymore but I used to use Yellow for Godhead, Green for Salvation and Blue for faith

What is the goal? If you have a special purpose bible making your own cross references helps (like Sean's SFT system).

But for general study there's really no point that I can see. To learn the bible you become familiar with it, book by book. It's better to take notes and summarize because a marking system is a Memory system, only the info is stored in your bible instead of your head and heart. By studying and summarizing/narrating, and memorizing, the info becomes assimilated into your mind and spirit.

So unless you are creating a special purpose bible I think bible marking may just be a diversion from more efficient learning methods.

I love marking my Bibles. Any Bible I use regularly will be marked. My system is if I mark something the next time I come to it read it multiple times. That way I am sure to get into my heart/mind what I feel is the most important.

I underline either the verse/verses or phrase or word that I choose. If something is VERY important after doing that I will put a star beside it.

When I was a young Christian I would write out entire books of scripture just so again I could really get a feel for it. I recommend a marking system for anyone who is considering it.

Years ago I marked, for example, passages throughout Romans that show the purpose of law being to show sin and how. Romans contrasted law and grace, for purposes of showing flesh versus spirit. And to this day, those Marked references greatly assist me in my studies.

I would mark beside a pertinent verse the reference to the next verse in the book.

I often used Larry Smith's rightly dividing the word home bible study, and ended up marking the first used in the study, and putting beside it the reference to the next verse, and so on until the entire study was outlined in that manner in my bible. That way, all I needed was the bible to teach the home bible study. Worked great! No charts.... Nothing else .

I've used Larry Smith' Study (still do) & have several bibles that include some of his refs as guidelines. I still think it is one of the best brief bible studies ever developed. I've even devised several for personal use patterned after his which have been effective.

I am a Bible marker. If something speaks to me in some way, it gets marked... but that's only when I happen to be using a paper bible. If I am on my phone or Nook, then I don't tend to mark in the Bible apps. I see no point there... I do sometimes share verses, though.

I rarely mark anything in my Bible. When I do, I use a highlighter and I try to keep it as neat as possible.

I may have three or four highlighted scriptures in my Bible but that's about it.

Marking is made for wide margin bibles. I recommend them.

I do not mark my Bible. Being of the color blind sort, special colors are not my specialty.

I love wide margin Bibles. My favorites are those by Cambridge and LCBP. What is your favorite?

I mark my Bible. I don't really have a system, but just mark scriptures or verses that speak to me.

Cambridge is great. Love the marginal notes.

Ya I mark my Bible - in digital ink. I use my Lumia 1520 exclusively for my Bible now. Have like over 100 books on my SD card in the phone that holds multiple Bible translations, concordances, devotionals, maps, commentaries ect ect...

I'm literally carrying a Biblical library in my pocket that I can use anywhere. As far as the original question goes. The Bible software I use is called POCKETBIBLE from the software developer Laridian.com
It gives me the ability to add notes to individual passages and bookmark and highlight (in different colors!) them as well. Very cool.
Once you go digital you never go back to paper which can be lost or destroyed and disinigrates over time. My software is backed up locally on my hard drive and in the cloud and on their servers so I never lose my stuff.

Highly recommend this solution to any serious and busy Believer.

I love Laridian. I've written a few articles on their blog. I like the way the split-screen works, the highlighting, the notes, and the bookmarking feature. I use the bookmarking for my memory list and for topics. Those features work together really well for preaching and teaching.

I also love the highlighting features of the Logos app. You can highlight with many different styles. It even includes Inductive Marking symbols.
