Essential Oils

We have been using essential oils for several years now, and have found wonderful health benefits to using them. I do not sell the oils, but just buy them from friends, or online.

However, I wonder if others on the forum would like to share about essential oils they may use, how they benefit you, and ideas on how to use them.

aside from coconut oil, which i swear by, i've always wondered how one uses the others myself!

There are a lot of uses and health benefits with using oils. I too love and use coconut oil, and use it for many different things, both cooking, and for my skin. I have made my own soaps, lotions, and lip balm using coconut oil. Love it!

I have also made my own orange oil as well. I add a few drops of other essential oils to it, and it makes a lovely oil to massage onto your hands or tired muscles.

I've used Frankincense oil for respiratory issues with allergies. What really cut to the chase and put me on the mend was a good grade of brandy in a hot toddy. I'm like, "That's it. I need some liquor to conquer this." :heeheehee

I use 30W oil in my mower and synthetic oil in my wife's car. I think my pickup uses 10W-40 or something like that. Those are all pretty essential to me.

I also occasionally use WD40 but I am not sure that counts as an essential oil.

I looked it up online, seems it's a synthetic oil that's best suited to cold (sub-zero) temperatures.

I've heard a lot of good about Frankincense, and don't have it - yet - because it is quite expensive... and I have heard that the brandy/hot toddy treatment is just about the best thing to shake a cold, lol!

I have been using tea tree oil for years on skin issues, any kind of skin infection, and it also works in lice treatment.

I use lavender in my soaps and hand lotions, and also sometimes I put a drop or two of lavender oil into some vinegar and use it as a softener instead of Downy to really clean my whites and towels.

Thanks for sharing your uses of essential oils :)

:heeheehee Well, there are other essential oils out there, but I wouldn't recommend putting them in your car, lol! Let's just say there is a big difference between essential oil for your car, and essential oil for your body... :lol

I also use Clovanol whenever I have bleeding gums, a cold sore, etc. Just a couple of drops under the tongue after I've brushed my teeth at night before bed, and in the morning, all is well. I've heard it also helps with tooth pain as well.

I will have you know I have a jar of coconut oil in my kitchen cabinet! Of course it has been there a couple of years and I think i only used it once. LOL

I do see from my FB feed that Essential Oils is the latest multi level marketing hooey that a lot of Pentecostals have jumped into. I give it two or three years and it will be forgotten like all of the other MLM fads.

Yes, I don't like the multi level marketing junk either. I steer clear of that. And not just Pentecostals doing it... just about everyone you talk to is involved in a MLM of them somehow.

At any rate, essential oils are good, despite the fact that they've been hit on by the MLM business. You are right, the whole MLM will probably crash and burn a few years down the road. But, that doesn't take away from the fact that you can make your own essential oils, and there are a lot of health benefits from using them.

You can put coconut oil directly on your skin. It also works just as good as a chemically created sunscreen. In fact, since I've started using coconut oil on my very fair skin in the last couple of years, I haven't had a sunburn. It is a natural sunscreen.

I think essential oils are great. But I have seen some folks attribute the reference to healing in the bible with anointing oil to the OIL causing a natural remedy and not the power of God. That is incorrect.

Re: Essential Oils

I have a fear about using essential oils though, as wonderful as they are.

I fear that people are "overusing them" as miracle drugs of sorts, much like antibiotics were freely given, and passed out when they first came on the scene, and now our bodies have developed immune responses to many antibiotics, rendering them ineffective.

I did some reading on viruses, and bacteria, and it is amazing how they have continued to survive despite all of the medical advances. The reason they survive is because they are constantly adapting and changing.

So... say that a certain essential oil treats a certain condition, but the person continues to use it for every little issue or problem, as if it were a miracle drug... and then before long, the oil stops doing its work, because the body/viruses/bacteria have adapted to the overuse, built up immunities, and now it no longer works.

This is my fear of what will happen with the overuse of essential oils, and perhaps is already in the works.

I wouldn't doubt that claim originated or had something to do with someone who was promoting the sale of the essential oils ... lol

That's exactly where I heard it. A local woman was talking to me about essential oils, and she sells them. She's Spirit-filled, but into some odd charismania stuff.

That is so sad really. Essential oils are great, but to try to equate them to the power and anointing of the Lord... that is just crazy!

My daughter makes homemade lotions and oils that are natural remedies. She has had amazing results with friends and family and has actually considered producing them commerically. A lot of legal liability though even though all the ingredients are natural and are just combinations of readily available things.

Sounds like this show I saw several years back, that tried to scientifically explain the miracles of the Bible. They claimed the parting of the Dead Sea, was caused by wind blowing it away from a reef, lol. People want to "explain" miracles, rather than just accept them.

Yes, I make my own as well just for personal use only. I do understand that producing them commercially involves a lot. However, it can be done. I think it is wonderful that she is doing that! Getting away from all of the chemicals that we put on our skin is a big health benefit.
