I emptied the washing machine and at the bottom....

I emptied the wash... at the bottom I found my wallet. So, here's a question for you smart folk..

Will running my wallet through the wash demagnetize credit cards/ drivers license/ etc????

Margies3 06-11-2007 12:50 PM

your drivers license is magnetized? interesting! ours are not.

Yes, we have technology in California!!! One time I was purchasing cigarettes (I no longer smoke, don't preach to me) the clerk swiped my DL through the machine. It's not something that is done with every purchase. The computer will randomly ask for an ID to be swiped. It checks the validity of the ID/DL.
I've even had my ID's/DL's swiped in the airport. Both my DL from Utah, and my ID from CA.

My husband has done this so many times that I have lost count. The cards will still work.

You've got answers, but you don't yet have the reason why:

Even if your washing machine's motor windings and/or main circuits emitted some minor electromagnetic pulses, and it's doubtful that they do, the outer wash basket of most washing machines is metal, and thus provides the better part of a Faraday cage - and that will shield and protect your credit cards.

Ohh.. another state with technology!! awesome!!

OP_Carl 06-11-2007 01:42 PM

The Faraday cage will not protect you, however, from late fees, finance charges, overlimit charges, or unwise purchases.

BoredOutOfMyMind 06-11-2007 01:42 PM

Drive 5 miles over the speed limit. When they pull you over, aske them to make sure your DL is not ruined....

We can drive 10 over the limit and not get pulled over.. go 15 over and they will pull you over... do like I did 3 yrs ago and pass a van at 32 over the limit and almost hit head on with a CHP!!! I got a speeding ticket. ohh... that reminds me

I can tell a story about that and not be prosecuted. When you make a criminal matter a civil matter, you can no longer file charges. :)

In IN the DL have gone to having a bar code, but not a magnetic strip.
