FREE Live Streaming 2015 UPCI Gen Conference
http://www.upcigc.com/streaming
Great news! The 2015 United Pentecostal Church General Conference being held in Nashville Tennessee September 22-25 will have all the services streamed live FREE of cost. I applaud this move by the UPCI leadership to make the events more accessible to the UPCI membership and other interested people. For families who can't afford to travel to GC each year I am sure this will be a great blessing. |
Re: FREE Live Streaming 2015 UPCI Gen Conference
Anybody on AFF going to be at the UPCI General Conference in Nashville next week? I had intended to visit on Friday but it looks like I may be in Atlanta on a business trip and not coming in until late. I am going to do my best to change those circumstances so I can attend that night.

Why is there a GC every year? I wouldn't think they would miss much by making it every two years.

Re: FREE Live Streaming 2015 UPCI Gen Conference
I will be there every night.

It now looks like I may be there Wednesday night instead of Friday. I will know for sure tomorrow. |
Re: FREE Live Streaming 2015 UPCI Gen Conference
We used our prayer meeting tonight to stream GC to the church. We were spiritually blessed tonight although it was not in person. Bro. Zuniga and Bro Ens did a great job and there was a great worship service. The UPCI is blessed to have such a great fellowship of people. I also liked how Bro. Bernard showed honor to ALJC Church leadership that was present. Looking forward to the service tomorrow.

Re: FREE Live Streaming 2015 UPCI Gen Conference
Right after I walked in the door tonight I ran into the illustrious Mark Yandris and spent some time catching up with him. Three songs off of his new CD are part of the recording project at this General Conference.
Saw a few folks I know but after so many years most of the folks I knew are Ex UPC like myself or not here this week. I did get to catch up with one old friend who is a prominent UPC pastor and educator who shall remain nameless to protect his reputation and my anonymity. |
Re: FREE Live Streaming 2015 UPCI Gen Conference
You have no anonymity.

A Canadian UPC pastor who frequented the forum told me there was no anonymity and he could prove it. Within a hour or two he sent me a PM showing where he not only had figured out my name and address but had found pictures of my daughters wedding, etc online and this was before FB and social media. Scary! By identifying what church I am a part of and postiing about its amazing story of growth I have made it pretty easy for any determined person to figure out who I am. Trust me though it is not worth the effort. |
Re: FREE Live Streaming 2015 UPCI Gen Conference
Or they can ask me. Your sent me a cd if a sermon from CC on one occasion. You have also posted bits and pieces. Not sure what you've posted on this forum.
Honestly, don't know why anyone would want that kind of info. From anyone. |
Re: FREE Live Streaming 2015 UPCI Gen Conference
Anybody watching the sermons? Anyone want to give us a synopsis of the messages?

I forgot to mention that Mark Yandris introduced me to Freddy Clark. A name I have heard for many years and whose very talented sons I have seen perform here in Nashville.

FC called me by my name the first time I met him without being introduced.

Brother Oggs was in an elevator and Bro. Clark stepped into it. Brother Oggs turns to him and says in that very distict voice: Freddy Clark! Brother Freddy Clark! Brother Clark says: "Brother it seems you know me, but I don't know you what is your name?" Brother Oggs then says 'Oh NO! YOU tell ME what my name is!" |
Re: FREE Live Streaming 2015 UPCI Gen Conference
I shocked that nary a person has shared any of the news from Gen Conf.
nobody even cares that North Texas has split off from East Texas to form a new district? |

well the first Texas split peeled South Texas off of the East/North areas. (Texico District has been in place for a long time combining West Texas and New Mexico) At that time there were people driving 10+ hours to attend district events. Right now, you have people in the North Texas area that drive more than 8 hours to Lufikin. My drive is about 4 hours. By contrast Louisiana is one of the larger more robust dristicts and one of the longest drives is New Orleans to Alex. and that takes about 3.5 hours. Just from geographical perspective this split will get more people and more churches involved in district events. This helps drive UPCI culture to the local church. (all you libs might want to freak out now... that sound you hear is my evil laugh hahaha) ALSO and no less important is a very simple reality that Texas regions as you know have very different cultural constructs and mentalities. both areas are going to be more reflective of the people in their areas than they were before. As Districts, East Texas, South Texas and North Texas are still among the larger districts in the UPCI. |
Re: FREE Live Streaming 2015 UPCI Gen Conference
They keep splitting because of the Mexicans.

Re: FREE Live Streaming 2015 UPCI Gen Conference
A few observations from General Conference;
- My rough estimate on attendancew in the ballroom is 6000-7500 people. Seats were full as far as I could see. - UPC women take very seriously the scripture about being a "peculiar" people as there were some crazy hairdo's! (I had a female UPC relative of mine observe of one hair do that it looked like something she twisted her hair into when she was getting into the shower - LOL) - Headbands - apparently this is a fashion craze for UPC women now. The latest alternative to real jewelry. Some decorated with rhinestones or other colorful things. Not a mass of them but enough to catch my eye and not something I have seen anywhere else. - Men - Of course they all look the same as men "in the world". - Not very many wedding bands on women and even fewer on men. A trend I noticed at this summers TN UPC Campmeeting (which you may recall surprised me since historically TN was considered liberal when I was growing up. Shows how things have change here) |

for instance, the exposure of our church people to the UPCI organization consists of some (not all) of our kids going to youth camp. that's about it. we have in the last couple of years had a few ladies go to Ladies conference but we are talking less than 15 out of a church of 230 people. That is it. its too far, it costs too much. its not feasible. with a smaller footprint and an organization centered geographically near our our churches, there is a far greater capacity for churches to push for involvement at the district level, thus exposing the people to the UPCI at a deeper level. You see this in Louisiana. Everybody from all over the state goes in large numbers to district events. As I pointed out, New Orleans is about as far from Alexandria as you get in the state. its 3.5 hours away. its doable. it isn't when your district events are 8+hours away. with the split of Texas into the 3 separate regions, we have driven the districts down to where the people are. |

North Texas is nearly all Metropolitian. DFW itself is a huge geographic area. The attitudes here, the pressures of life and the general culture are impacted by that reality. East Texas is the exact opposite. It is rural. Even its towns/cities like Tyler, Jacksonville, Marshall, Lufkin etc are more rural-Texan. so the things that make the church work there aren't the same things that make the church work in North Texas. Its just different. by the way, all of this was also true about the California district that split into two districts. these are massive areas far from each other with different cultural drivers. Both Cali districts have done better since the split. South Texas district has also done well being separate. |
