So Let me say this once again.

Uncle Ben's is my wife's favorite rice but it is also pretty much the most expensive and I am such as tightwad I rarely buy it. I don't see the difference and certainly no difference worth paying several times what other rice costs.

I don't understand.

My wife makes Jambalaya with brown rice or Basmati rice.

but I still don't understand the issue with parboiled rice?

Hey, vinegar and salt chips with Tabasco sauce taste great!

Oh, and I have a cat story,

My daughters found a kitten in the wheel well of the neighbor's car, and guess what they did? They brought it home. Now my two cats Squeaker and Dolly Cow are very upset. Dolly Cow is so upset that she will not come out while the kitten is out in the living room with the girls. Why is DC upset? Because I said we couldn't have three cats, so my girls thought to give DC to one of the families in the church. When I heard this I was shocked, and went to look for DC, and found her by the back door scowling. I told the girls that I guess we have to keep all three cats. The kitten is too little right now to give to anyone I know, and DC isn't going anywhere. So, please pray that no more kittens are found anywhere around my home. Also pray that my daughters do not bring any more animals home. :)

Be sure to get non GMO rice.

Jasine rice is awesome stuff, by the way. Although we usually eat meats and veggies, when we do eat a starch it's either potatoes or jasmine rice.

Or pasta. I luvs me some pasta...

I do brown rice mainly because it is a clean protein. My pasta is also non gluten rice pasta.

But salt and vinegar potato chips with Tabasco sauce is almost as good as bacon.

:thumbsup

Bacon is evil, the demons asked Jesus to be allowed to enter into the pigs, only because the pig is an evil animal. The pigs were so evil they committed suicide. :D

I'll eat bacon, but I'm not to cool on eating pork because I can't find someone from Louisiana down here in Fort Lauderdale to cook it. :D

Brother I will pray for you.

Par boiled rice has been treated in such a way, that it simply does not have that "rice" feel.

I applaud your wife's use of brown and/or Basmati. I use Basmati quite a bit.

it's just rice with all the gluten removed; basically edible styrofoam.

You don't understand his issue with parboiled rice... and I am not so sure he does either. You know how Ferd is when he gets on a tangent. It's like the ramblings of a madman. :heeheehee

Parboiled likes me and I like it, even though I know brown rice is the best for you.

Nothing can redeem salt and vinegar chips.. Not hot sauce... Not even queso dip.

I'm not so sure I can fill those prayer requests, but DC sure sounds like she is not into the new kitty. She'll warm up, you will have three kitties.. and you won't notice much difference till the kitten gets bigger and wants to sit on whatever material you are reading. LOL

I'm gonna have me some of my leftover jambalaya shortly for a late lunch and I can assure you, there is nothing styrofoamy about it.

Now, if you are talking about minute rice I would agree.

Salt N Vinegar chips are very good for you.

Especially with some Mcilhenny. :)

My cats (because I'm the one who feeds and cleans up after them) never sit on anything I don't want them to sit on. While I'm studying or sitting at my desk, they rest on the couch and chairs next to my desk. The kitten seems to be running on continual electricity because she doesn't seem to slow down. My two other cats just stare at the kitten then shoot me a look. A sister in our church family just laughs and thinks the whole thing is funny because I wasn't going to have any animals. Yet, as my girls got older the animals started showing up. Animals which I take care of. Squeaker was the first cat. I was driving home from the supermarket with my daughter and she saw this tiny little infant kitten (eyes still closed shut) on the highway right in the middle of traffic. She said "daddy, please turn around and go get the little kitten in the road" so, I turned the car around, and blocked the traffic with my car as my daughter scooped up the new born kitten. Don't ask me how the kitten was left there, I really don't know. Yet, we brought the new born kitten home and my daughter feed it out a little toy baby bottle. The next one to show up was Dolly Cow, I was asked to take DC's pregnant mother but flatly refused. I was sure not going to have a pregnant cat in the house, and sure didn't want to be saddled with who knows how many kittens. But another sister in the church family took the mother, and somehow I ended up with Dolly Cow. The rest is now history in the making. But I'll tell you right now, there will be no more kittens, no more no more.

My kitty is 13 1/2, so I am with you on that one. I don't have all the furballs I used to have and have decided that once Miss Mika "Moo" is gone, that is it for me. As much as I love cats and dogs, I won't be getting any more.

I don't use minute rice. Never have, though I have tried five minute rice and did not like it. The texture was like plastic. Parboiled rice is not minute rice (despite some remarks made here). It still takes about 20 minutes to cook if you are cooking it alone on top the stove.

Why does parboiled have to be enriched?

Also, how long do cats live?

I thought cats were like goldfish and didn't have a long life span, but my daughter said something crazy like 20 years? I said that's impossible! I cannot have these cats around for 20 years!

I don't know why any rice needs to be enriched, whether it is regular white rice or parboiled. I don't know what the enrichment process is either... but now that you mention it, I am curious.

The oldest cat is 26 years old. The last "oldest cat alive" was in its 30's when it died. Average indoor cat lifespan is between 12 and 20 years.

Aren't you glad you didn't get tortoises?

I'm wondering how Ferd knows what cat food tastes like. I'm also wondering what brand and flavor of cat food he is comparing parboiled rice to. I know I certainly don't feed my cat the junk you can get at the grocery store and I know some people who cook for and raw feed their cats.

That kitten gobbled it up though.

My kitty is a picky old lady. Not sure if she would touch Fancy Feast, though she loves their Broth treats. I feed her Earthborn Holistic. Right now I have two bags of it -- Primitive Feline, which is mostly turkey and chicken, and Wild Sea Catch, which is the seafood one. Guess which one the cat who was rescued in a fishing community prefers... Yep... Seafood. :nod

In short it means they destroy the food's nutritional value and then add vitamins back into it by an artificial process.

I am not a fan of artificial processes. Or removing the good stuff out of food, but I find it easiest to cook with this rice than others. I may have to give another a try, though. I try to keep my food real.

You can always leave provisions for the tortoise that outlives you in your will. Bequeath the thing to the kids and your grandchildren. LOL
