What Do You Do When Your Faith Is Weak?

Really, what do you do?

What do you do when you're at your wits end about a situation, mentally drained, spiritually apathetic about it, ready to just walk away?

What I do?

I remember what the Lord has done in order to counteract the story that God just doesn't do.

I find older sermons to listen to again, to gain strength from the strong pronunciation of the Character of our God and Savior.

He will come and save you!

There is a scripture I will look up and post about fainting if I didn't believe that I had seen the goodness of the Lord in my life.

What do you do?

When it is just you and your thoughts and your own mind betrays you and your heart begins to grow cold as that root of bitterness begins to manifest itself... again?

That parent that never affirmed you.
That bully who scarred you.
That one job you almost had.
That one job you got fired from.
That loved one who passed away too soon.
That brother that wounded you.
That sister that almost destroyed you.
That battle you just lost the other day.
That shame because you knew better.
That God that you want to hide from.
That God that you want to scream at!
That thought that is fearful and strangely comforting.

That moment when it all seems to come together to tell you something that you KNOW can't be true, but it sure does seem true, in that dark, dark moment.

The Lord knows how to reach me, in that dark, dark moment.

He speaks to the little boy in me.
He tells me things... too precious to share with you on this public board.

Oh but He speaks to me.

He lets me hear His Voice.

He comes to me.

He lets me weep and He pulls me closer.

Asking why doesn't come across my mind when He pulls me closer.

I'm just glad He's there.

Then He Speaks to the man in me.

He reassures me of His Word, His Promises, His Character.

In that dark moment, He restores my soul.

He lets me see Him as my Light.

He gives me back my confidence.

Now I know, it's going to all work out.

He's going to do what I can't and maybe even a little more.

I can still hear Him say, "I got you."

Jesus Christ, in this moment, I want to tell you how much I love You.

I really, really love You!

Good thoughts.

I rebuild my faith from the truth of the Word.

I do what I teach our church to do. Realize I'm buried with Christ in His death so that God could unite me to Christ and raise me with Him so I'm now seated with him in heavenly places. That puts me over everything that could come against me. And i encourages me to know I have power over it all through Christ.

Satan threw his best at Christ and that was the power of death. And because Christ resurrected from that death, He overcame all the power of the devil. And since the same power that raised Christ is in me now, and it overcame the devil's greatest force of death, then what can the devil do to me with lesser things since I overcame the power of death through Christ?

And THAT encourages me.

JD - I have sometimes been too discouraged and troubled to do anything but hang on. I believe that in those times, the prayers I prayed and verses I studied, before the bad times, have got me through.
My last really bad time was about 10 years ago.
Looking back I am amazed that I made it though.
But, the Word has always been able to minister to me more than anything else.
And there is always a triumph on the other side of the trial.

I was simply going to say, I keep reading the Word. No matter how I feel, I keep reading His Word.

Your emotions can never be trusted, but the Word of God can be.

His promises are still truth, even if you don't see them at work in your life. The word of God is what keeps me, and has kept me. It is the only truth that will stand the tests and trials of this life.

What, nobody does the chocolate fix anymore?

Seriously, though, I remember the Psalms. David had been there, done that. And God preserved his prayers and songs for us to know, it don't mean nuthin'. Nothing new, others have been through it before, so I know "this too shall pass" and I'll see the deliverance of God - one way or another.

The bolded part reminds me of the scripture, "though my flesh be destroyed, in my flesh I will see God."

Job 19:25-27

Though I usually repeat it to myself, "Though my flesh be destroyed, with my eyes, I shall see God."

I think there was a UPCI choir who made a gospel recording and this verse was quoted like this in one of the songs they sang.

Friendly tip... it's not bolded. It's emboldened.

Carry on.

Faith comes by hearing, and it is hearing that comes by the Word. I have yet to see a very good expo on this; the verse is often shortened to "faith comes by hearing the Word," etc. For me, what faith i have is reinforced by "hearing" the Word played out in daily life, in the smallest things sometimes. But another reflection is, faith for what? Your faith can be strong in some areas, and in others not so much.

Faith is a gift, also, which seems at odds in regards to "faith comes by hearing." There are ways to develop faith in specific areas, but i would examine these to insure that you are not trying to develop faith for something you just want, and may not need.

Shaz, you make things up as you go along, with no rational basis for the things you say you believe. You also are highly prone to offering your advice to everyone here, in such a way that indicates you obviously think you are the teacher and we all poor slobs have missed it.

Here's an apple for the teacher: You are yet another victim of anti-reality matrix programming, you have jettisoned the very basis of critical thinking - a worldview grounded in Realism. Socrates would have no questions for you.

hmm well all i have is an opinion; but i thought those were all pretty much just Scriptural repetitions. Yes, i am just mentioning apparently conflicting reflections on faith, as i find cognitive dissonance instructive, but what do you disagree with? Isn't "What Do You Do When Your Faith Is Weak?" a request for advice? I'll consider your comments, ty, but i am just a poor slob who has missed it, myself, as you note.

Song the Lord used to minister to me today in a powerful way!

I hope you enjoy it at least a quarter as much as I did!
