We got a Church building

1 Attachment(s)
The Lord blessed us with the Church building that we wanted! It's an old Church building at 900 Knoxville Ave, Athens, TN 37303 for $200 a month!

This is the first Church I played guitar in, the Church my mother went to when she was a baby (1950), the first Church I can remember going to, the first Church my late Pastor preached in, and the Church he and his wife got the Holy Ghost in. It came with the piano that his wife gave to the Church when she was a child (they had no room for it), and it still has a ceiling can that I bought for it 23 years ago.

Unfortunately we were never able to attend for long because it had anything from trinitarians to homosexuals behind the pulpit (and most recently wasn't an Apostolic Church).

It was prison gray. I wanted blue :-) Attachment 5091

Congratulations on the building! I have actually been to both Athens and Sweetwater before.

Yes! $200 per month and it included the padded pews, organ, piano, platform, a pulpit that I didn't like (I used my own), and ceiling fans. I added a small water heater, repaired and painted the walls, fixed the windows behind the pulpit, and all of the decorations. It also has a fellowship room, class room, and office.

That is slightly better than the $30,000 or so we pay per month for leasing our building!

I'll bet it's nice! I'll also bet you have more people than we do. We have about a dozen (but just getting started). Do you have pics or a website?

I don't think I know him. Do you know where he goes to Church?

What is so great about your situation is that with God blessing you with such a great deal on rent you will be under much less pressure than you would be if you were having to make a big payment every month. That will make it easier to concentrate on outreach.

Every situation is different and of course to a degree the size of churches is limited by the density of population around them but by the time you outgrow that building you will be able to afford whatever you will need at that time.

Our church was birthed 7 years ago (I have been there about 5 years). It started with a literal handful of people. Five years ago when I became a part of it we ran about 200 people. Three years ago we had grown to 400-450 so had to move from the downtown building that had once been a small grocery store (seated 150 and we had three Sunday services). We leased part of a 112 year old factory and renovated it. First Sunday had 713 and I don't think we ever ran below 600 after the move. The current sanctuary seats about 650 but next Sunday will be our first Sunday in the space on the other side of our building we have leased and it will seat 1200-1500 eventually (starting with about 1,000 seats). We have four services (two on Saturday evening and two on Sunday morning) and run about 2,000 people.

Not a traditional Pentecostal church but we do baptize in Jesus name and believe in the gifts of the Spirit.
