Unexpected Sales

So I work occasionally in construction usually just delivering materials and doing cleanup. Well the two guys I work around were asking me how the candle making was coming along, I told them about what we have been working on and out of nowhere one of them asked me if I'd make him one. I was all like,"Heck yeah!" But without all the desperation in my voice.

I brought him a sample of the scent and it was so strong that as soon as I walked into the building, they could smell it. They were so impressed that the other guy wanted one and before it was over with I had a total of 4 orders with them wanting more.

So I have a possibility of getting them on consignment at a local flowershop as well.

It's just exciting to see people interested in a business you're starting.

Re: Unexpected Sales

Just having to work on pouring money back into tools and items and materials to make more, faster.

Honestly my love for RPGs *Role Playing Games...not Rocket Propelled Grenades* have taught me how to start small and improve and upgrade.

Had to get all my formulations straight...certain amount of scent for a certain amount of wax...etc so I worked through the math with my wife's help and made formulation tables for super small amounts up to candles the size of 32 oz.

I'm working using a grease pitcher in a pot on a stove as a double boiler to melt the wax and using silicon ice cube trays to pour the melted wax into so it solidifys into small shapes that can be weighed and organized easily until they are needed to be melted down and have scent and color added to make either candles or wax melts.

It's been fun figuring stuff out and getting creative with how to get things done.

WOW!

The candles I know about always lose their scent around the halfway point.

I would buy scented candles that I knew would last!

Well we do wood wick candles and we make sure they are strong.

Till the end?

What causes the sweet savour-- the wooden wick or the melting of the candle wax,

Actually I'm going to be experimenting with the woodwick.

They seem to be scented until they finish...I mean we mix the scent with the melted wax and the scent is super strong and we don't go light on it.

I'm going to experiment with adding scent to the oil we soak the wood wicks in so that the scent will possibly infuse into the wood wicks.

As of now we add the oil scents just to the wax then pour the candles....now if people are adding their scents while the wax is too hot it may cause their scents to evaporate or cook out....that wax gets up to 180 to 200 degrees.

So we let the wax cool to just under 150 then add the oil and pour.

The main reason to that is that as wax as well as anything else cools it contracts and it can leave holes on the top of the candle...cosmetic only and once it's lit the wax melts and it evens out....so to avoid that and to keep from going back and adding wax we pour when it's still liquid but close to solidifying

Now the scents are oil based not alcohol based so they don't boil off.

Now the oils we get can be used to make soaps, scrubs and shampoos and the oils are so strong that half an ounce will scent a whole gallon of soap, scrub or shampoo.

I can't find the oil to make them but the ones that do make them also do bbq brisket so they are using the drippings...cooking them down to make beef tallow and mixing 2 parts tallow 1 part wax and making candles out of that.

Hmm. What about a wood wick made from pecan wood, with the beef tallow/wax combo? I wonder if that would smell like bbq?

As far as the wick goes, lighter woods like balsa are traditionally used...its an interesting concept and while I love brisket and would love to make a brisket candle I don't have the money to buy briskets at the moment lol

I guess I can approach bbq places and be all like, "I wanna buy yo grease!"
