Homestead Heritage????
 

I just came across some literature on this group it sounds as if they are Oneness but are communal anyone know anything about them? They are around Waco, Tx.

Is this not the same group Sister Alvear posted about in detail??

Yes it is. Maybe it was on the other forum though.

I think CC1 new something about them. There was a thread about them on one of the old forums.................

Where Community Is No Cliché
Forty-three families in rural Texas blend Pentecostal fervor and Anabaptist simplicity.

Beginning on the mean streets of Manhattan and migrating to the serenity of the Texas prairie, 43 Christian families are living together in a bold experiment on a 500-acre farm north of Waco, Texas. Many Christians talk about overcoming American individualism through Christian living. But the residents of Homestead Heritage go beyond talk.

This intentional Christian agricultural and crafts community blends Pentecostal fervor with Anabaptist simplicity and accountability. The group is divided into the Brazos de Dios residential community (named after the river that runs through its property) and Homestead Heritage, the umbrella organization under which they do all their work. Brazos de Dios residents are not Amish or even Mennonites, although they have forged close ties with traditional Anabaptists. Rather, they are Christians from many different walks of life engaged together in a modern-day experiment in radical discipleship.

The Homesteaders' unadorned dress and plain hairstyles draw whispers in supermarket aisles: "They're from Homestead Heritage." And their handmade furnishings draw thousands of marveling visitors to their craft village.

Outsiders also flock to the farm's festivals every year to experience life as it was 150 years ago: breaking the sod with horse-drawn plows, growing enormous vegetables naturally, grinding grain into flour in an old-fashioned gristmill, making "chocolate" ice cream using carob instead of cocoa.

Not all visitors to Homestead Heritage have a clear idea what lies behind the living-history farm and craft village. With heavenly food, handmade chairs, and gorgeous quilts for sale, some just become loyal customers of Homestead products.

The group was founded by Blair Adams in the New York area, moved to Texas and was joined by Howard Wheeler who left Kenneth Phillips church many years ago. My wife and I visited HH earlier this year, it is a wonderful place to visit. They build incredibile furniture, great food, grind corn and other grains with a stone grist. They have a village for the purposes of drawing tourists for income. Beyond the village most of the residents live in mobile homes, it is interesting but makes me wonder. Sister Alvear has lived there and has some family still there, she has shared some with me by PM, she has no confidence in the leadership.

I guess I missed the the thread that discussed it? I never heard of the group? Are they Oneness?

The leaders in this group certainly have Oneness roots, and I believe them to still be OP for the most part. I read a book about what they believe written by Blair Adams, it was somewhat confusing as to what they really believe.

Pastor and his wife in the section visited HH last year when our Dist. Conf. was held in Waco. She raved about their simplicity and the entire HH experience. Not for sure about leadership but I know they are connected to OP someway.

Sis Alvear knows these people.

Most of you have never heard me speak evil of anyone but if you really want to know you can e mail me at Janalvear@aol.com . One thing I will say what you see is NOT what really goes on there. I know them personally and some of them have been to Brazil twice. Yes, they are oneness with lots of special revelations and many many things that are scary...very scary. If you knew what I personally know tears would come to your eyes...I cannot say on this forum what I know to be true about HH...

I pray for the people there...I will leave it at that.

Sister Alvear where is that link again where you posted on a forum with some of their leadership? I read that once somewhere on the web.Too bad because if this was above board such a simplistic life would be awesome.I would pack it up today but then I like a nice hairdo and new dress now and then and doubt my hand made variety would surfice so I would be way too worldly
for them.

I looked at a couple of pics out there but I didn't seen any different dress. But then, all I saw was guys. GO figure.
