New Computer

I'd been limping along with a 10-year-old computer and finally upgraded to a Solid State hard drive, Intel Core i7 processor, and Windows 10. It's been easy for the most part, but the worst part is that a lot of my old programs won't work, so it has been time consuming searching for replacement programs.

I am still thinking about whether to invest in Microsoft Office to get a word processor, but wondered if anyone has experience with the free word processing programs out there, and what you would recommend... ?

Open office is what I use also, it's free.

I use Open Office as well. I will NOT use Windoze 10. I'd rather use a C64 emulator. :)

Just remember - "cyber security" is a marketing scam, nothing more.

Some of us actually have connections to the cyber security world. Others just like to post tinfoil emojis.

:thumbsup

Yes, or another option is Libre Office.

Thanks for all the help! I have heard of Libre Open Office, and I will give it a try. It would be better than paying the outrageous price Microsoft Office wants now for their 365 version!

Is anything secure in this world we live in? I know that's a scam for sure. But technology never stops, and where do we fit into the picture?

Talk about making me feel guilty... I'm sorry you still haven't gotten a new computer! We had a friend build it for us, so none of the extra fancy stuff, just the basics. I like the speed of the new computer for sure.... I hope you get a new one soon! :dogpat

I'm just messing around, I just need to get an antivirus program (please don't anyone make suggestions) I just need to figure this out. Brother Burk tries to help me with these things but when he does it is like I'm ordering a hot dog in Ancient Sumerian. Anyway, I have a long list of needs and never want to burden anyone with them. I'm still waiting for Praxeas to become a Billionaire, and buy me a Husqvarna, or Stihl chainsaw. Just pray for us, because the list is long.

My computer will have to last for 20 more years.

Cans around here aren't returnable. :tissue

Well, if you pray really hard it might happen. :)

At my work, we just repaired a Windows 98 machine with a bad PSU. Believe it or not, we actually found an identical replacement power supply that was brand new in the box. 20 years and still ticking.

Of course, getting online with a computer that old is another story entirely. :heeheehee

I have a Dell Desktop from 1997 with Windows 98 that works fine, but for the cd-rom.
