Your longest fast?
 

I'm reading a great book on fasting. The man doesnt mess around, he even had his small kids doing extended fasts. Like he said, they won't die.

Just curious what your longest ones have been.

Best book on fasting: "God’s Chosen Fast" by Arthur Wallis

longest fast on water only: 5 days

Daniel Fast: 21 days

I think consistent fasting of one day per week, with occasional fasts of a couple of days is very effective, maybe more effective then a longer fast done once in a great while.

Luke 5:33-35 (KJV) 33 And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise [the disciples] of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink? 34 And he said unto them, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? 35 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

Seven days with only water.

I've fasted during the day time hours for 34 days once.

I like to fast at least a meal every week, if not an entire day.

Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
(Matthew 6:16-18)

He didn't say "if", He said "when", thus showing He expected His disciples to fast. As others have pointed out, His disciples were scolded by the Pharisees for not fasting. Interestingly, if His disciples were obeying His instructions in Matthew 6, the Pharisees wouldn't know His disciples were fasting, and would have assumed they didn't.

And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not? And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
(Mark 2:18-20)

He said the children of the bridechamber would indeed fast. Interestingly, He never actually affirmed that His disciples did not, in fact, fast. Although we assume that's who He was referring to, with him being the bridegroom. But then, that would mean the disciples were the children of the bridechamber, rather than THE BRIDE.
