When your own wife and kids call you, Pastor
Is that kinda weird, when while meeting with the church, the wife and children commonly, if not always, refer to their husband and dad, (The church pastor), as “pastor “? (Instead of dad, or honey or whatever)
Maybe it’s a common thing, I’m not sure, I just noticed it the last few months. Seems kinda strange to me. Other denoms? I mean when I think about ithe biblical nt church of the scriptures, I’m thinking Peters wife or kids did not call him apostle or pastor....maybe I’m amiss though. |

Maybe only around other believers?

Excerpt around kids, then I say Pastor Eddie so they will learn to. |
Re: When your own wife and kids call you, Pastor
I had one pastor tell me he'd rather have his kids think of him as their pastor than their dad. I was shocked.
I have never enjoyed being called "pastor." I much prefer "Brother" being used before my name. I see it this way: I introduce my self by the name "Tom Burk" because that's who I am. My parents called me "son" because that's who I am. My wife introduces me as "Husband" because that's who I am. My kids call me "Dad" because that's who I am. But "Pastor" is not who I am--it's what I do. So, to me, calling a person "pastor" is like calling others in the church names like "housewife." "Fireman," "waitress," store clerk," retiree," or whatever else they do. Such names are titles or descriptions of what they do, not names of who they are. |

Dad is what you became when you had kids. Husband is what you became when you got married. If these titles became a "who" based on certain conditions, then Pastor is "who" you became based on the same premise. |

Being a dad is not the same. In most cultures, dad, or some variation of dad, is a name commonly used to address your dad. But I've yet heard a child call their dad, "fireman." Or their mom, "housewife." See the difference? |

Mom: "Here's my son, 'Newspaper Boy.'" Dad: "Here's my daughter, 'Babysitter.'" I've never met such a parent. Have you? |

If he was on that fishing trip with you, it would be awkward to ask, "'President', would you like another RC Cola?" No, as you posted, you'd use his actual name. You ask, 'President Trump', would you like another RC Cola?" Names like Mr., Mrs., Dr., President are considered "Titles" or "honorific names" used to describe that person. Normally, they are used with a person's last name. Hence: Mr. Smith. Mrs. Jones. Dr. Welby. President Trump. The same goes with "pastor." It is a title or honorific name that should accompany the person's name. Hence: "Pastor Guy." Some have made this less formal by using instead the first name. Hence: "Pastor Hometown." But--again--being president is what Donald Trump does, not who he is...and pastoring is what Hometown Guy does, not who he is. Paul said he did the works of an apostle, but you never see anyone calling him, "Apostle," but instead he is called, "Paul." |

The use of religious titles is forbidden to Christians. There is no clergy/laity distinction in the church of God:
Matthew 23 1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, 2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: 3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. 4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. 5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, 6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, 7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. 8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. 9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. 10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. 11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. |
