I am so sick of junk phones!
Am I the only one sick of these sorry excuses for phones nowadays? My grandparents had the same phone for I don't know how many years! These cordless phones just don't last very long. I've had to buy 4 in the last 5 years alone. Everything is so cheaply made. The last cordless phone I bought I got just a few months ago and already I can't hear what other people are saying.

Does your voice drown out the sound of theirs?
:D:D |
I have a Yellow Western Electic 500 I picked up at a yard sale. Mrs B hated it but has grown to accept it.
It is POTS(plain old telephone service) it does have RJ45 plug, but is a rotary dialer.... soon I will turn off my POTS and go 100% cellular and this will be destined for ebay. Here is a similiar phone for $62 http://www.boldoldphones.com/Images/..._phone_3phones |

Believe me this one is loud enough, it will wake the dead. Phone rang after midnight the other night....jolted us both of us right out of bed. Don't you love it when at that time of night it is the wrong number??? lol Actually, I was glad it was a wrong number cause if it had been the right number it most probably would have been BAD news.

I recently saw some numbers that say in the 20's demographic, almost 30% have either switched or are ready to get rid of land line phones altogether. Makes sense with the cell rate plans y'all have in the States. When the iPhone is available in Canada I will be buying one. I tested one already and I was amazed!

the only reason we have a POTS line is for our alarm system. It has no long distance, no features and costs $12.00 a month. We do not have any phones in the house hooked up to this line (although I installed a jack for emergency use in case we ever need it and we have a corded phone sitting in a closet to use it with, if needed).
I have cable internet and a VOIP phone that plugs into one of my switches (I have 20 Network jacks scattered around the house). If I did not spend so much time on conference calls, I would not need this. I did recently cancel my "2nd line" on this service because I send about 2 faxes a year and that is a silly reason to have a second line, even if the company is paying for it. I LOVE the voicemail feature where it sends my messages into my e-mail as a .WAV file. Then we have our mobile phones... I agree with Rico though, the physical quality of mobile phones as well as cordless phones seems to get worse instead of better. |

And the Telcos are in favor of users switching. In icestorms, they send a crew to one site and restore 2500 users at once. I might try an iphone but not for $600 down and locked into AT&T Wireless. Look for some features to come into other phones soon. Don't expect the price on Apple equipment to come down. |
