Which AFF poster has the most Acadian Accent?

Which AFF poster has the most Acadian accent ?
Could it be Phil Jones ,Trouvere, NLYP,or a host of LA.posters ?
Who has the most Acadian accent here on AFF ?

Scott Hutchinson 07-23-2007 11:38 AM

If TimLand, was still here he would win hands down.

Ferd 07-23-2007 11:39 AM

Tim didnt really have a Cajun accent. I bet that Trouvere does though!

and NLYP's kids might too, they lived in the heart of Acadiana for their formative years.

Scott Hutchinson 07-23-2007 11:40 AM

She sure does, she talks fast too.

Scott Hutchinson 07-23-2007 11:41 AM

REVDWW might be in the running on this one.

Scott Hutchinson 07-23-2007 11:47 AM

Do I hear a fiddle and a accordion playing in the background ?

Not an ounce of Cajun in it!!!!!!! I worked with a guy, Manny, who taught me a few phrases in Crejole French probably over 20 years ago......

well, clearly having grown up in West/Central La. and Dallas TX I dont have a Cajun accent, though I can fake it if needed....

but Phil, it aint like you speak with urbane diction yourself! LOL!

Ferd 07-23-2007 11:52 AM

I have a cajun uncle. He married my dad's sister. Cajuns do some odd stuff.

I see Blubayou lurking...

Scott Hutchinson 07-23-2007 11:53 AM

Are there any Jole Blondes here ?

Blubayou 07-23-2007 11:53 AM

I do not have a cajun accent at all, but I love to hear it. My grandfather who, I never knew, was cajun - That is a close as I get.

I have a cajun uncle that married my Mom's sister. He was a shrimper and had his own boat for years (retired now). I remember him putting in down at Sabine Pass and calling my Dad to bring down a couple of wash tubs for shrimp and flounder......It gave me a deep love and repect for Uncle Marvin and for fresh seafood.....:killinme:killinme:killinme

Brother Strange 07-23-2007 12:06 PM

My wife is Cajun to the bone. But, she has been married to me for so long that she has almost lost her accent.

Her brothers and sisters....whooooo sher...i'magonnatoleyasumpin'ratnah, Yeah!

Her Dad was a Shrimper all of his life. He built his own boats. When I was younger, I helped him build several of them. The largest was 54' double rigger and built several Lafette (Sp ?) skiffs too. I bet I could still build a pretty good skiff.

That sounds more like ebonics.

"Lawn" with a cajun accent would be pronounced more like "LAAWUN."

I stand fully and phonetically corrected
but......
the 'wun' at the end would be so audibly fading into the moist summer heat that only the trained ear would hear :thumbsup

Also, I was only a seven-year traveler through Grand Isle and Bayou Lafourche and I left in '83. Maybe since then all of Jefferson Parish has been to "I love english real good" training as a little "laniappe"

btw,
My New Jersey (albeit south Jersey) accent never endeared me with the locals.

LOL...

You know, I found some of the Brooklyn accent to be very similar. That accent is especially noted in words like father, pronounced FAWUTHER. New Orleans would be pronouned Nu awlins. Dog would be dawug. :D

Btw, a lot of my family still live in Jefferson Parish.

Trouvere 07-23-2007 03:23 PM

For the record we are not wierd.:drama
My parents both spoke french.I heard it 24/7 even though
we moved out of Acadiana and into Franklin.I am told we sound like
we are from New Jersey or Maine. So it cannot be that bad.
Since my pop died I miss speaking my own language every day.
I had a boyfriend in high school from Canada. That is an accent oh man.
We have nothing on them.
Where is Darty I need somebody on my side????

your post absolutely reminds me of an early experience at a Popeye's in the 9th ward; I asked a person if they were from Brooklyn or NYC. I was hearing folks from my Grandmom's house neighborhood on Staten Island....needless to say, the chicken wasn't the only spicey thing I had served my way that night! They set me straight in a hurry.

hmmm,
Since this area was so devastated from the extended duration from flooding due to the levy failures, I wonder if any relocated to the Bronx or Queens!

but don't get me wrong, I am not connecting the French speaking folks in southern La with the folks from Chalmette. The only thing worse than a **** Yankee was the whole mess of folks called the city of Nu awlins (maybe tradegy has united the greater southern half of the state with the crescent city).

Are you kidding. They are the best people in the whole world...bar none.

Marie (not Maria, not Mary) but MariE (French) would be on your side full force if she would get on the computer. But, she hates computers.

BTW do you understand that there is a portion of Louisiana called Acadiana?

Brother Strange 07-23-2007 05:12 PM

Here is my li'l Cajun girl. She was the prettiest girl in the big AOG church where I first saw her. I walked into the church just as it was getting started one night. There were probably 2000 people there. The choir was already singing. There were about a hundred or more in the choir. The first girl that I saw was my gumbo, etoufee cookin' Mah' reee. I could not get my baby blues off of her...no! She was only 16.

Now here she is 43 years, six children and eight grandchildre later. ...and she is stil mine, after all these years. Picture taken with brother Kilgore and "you know who."

I love the picture of you and Sis and Brother K.He is still looking sharp.Hey
his suits have improved.I still love to hear an orchestra ensemble during
offering service ever since living in Houston.I also love how they used
to have psalm praising before services and how they would lower the lights
and the whole church would pray.Awesome!

Trouvere 07-23-2007 08:17 PM

One of the good things (Ah' Cod dee)Acadie people have going for them

Got that right Sis...

Her hair was black when we married. Still, there is little gray in it, though it has faded into a lighter color. But, the girl has no wrinkles...at least a very few even now into her 60s. This picture was taken Sun two weeks ago, if I recall. One of our daughters is VERY olive, as is one of our sons. I love her the complexion of her skin.

Bro Scott:

If you come by. Marie will put the little pot in the big one.

Scott Hutchinson 07-23-2007 08:47 PM

Bro.Strange I'd love to come and visit yall.I'd enjoy that.

Brother Scott looks like he could put down a good bit of gumbo. When fall hits the pot goes back on the stove and the gumbo is on.
