CHOOSE ONE: Christian, Apostolic, Pentecostal or Other
If you had to choose one word to describe you and your faith which one would it be .... WHY?
|
That's a tough one! If I could only use ONE word, I suppose that I would use Christian. I want to be that above all else. I have known many Pentecostals and Apostolics who were NOT Christians. (fortunately, most of them have been Christians, though)
|
Other Apostolic Pentecostals should be Christians too.
|
All of the above.
I once had a man asked what religion I was. I said "I'm a Christian". "NO YOU ARE NOT", he replied. "You are a Pentecostal". I thought about that for quite a while. lol |

Other Christian Apostolic Pentecostal?

It is no secret I have never cared for the term Apostolic. The twenty-first century church is not Apostolic by most means of measurement. To me, the only reason why Oneness Pentecostals picked up the term "Apostolic" was so they would not be lumped in with trinitarian Pentecostals. Of course, we still love to be included in all of the worldwide "Pentecostal" growth statistics. |

I think it's time we officially define "Christian"?

Well you started the thread - go for it! :sing |
Where were they first called Christians?
|
Dear Rhoni:
My friends think they are Christians but I am dubious if they are indeed truly 100% Christians. Please help me as I'm not sure what to do. |

I had to answer: PERSONAL...because that is what it is! To label a relationship with God, as well as anyone else can be difficult at best.

I really dont see the purpose of this thread except to somehow take the results and then do a spin doctor on them and make them say something other than what was intended by good people who answered an impossible question from the best of their heart. If we say, Christian, then somehow we are saying we are not Apostolic or Pentecostal. If we say Apostolic then we are somehow saying we are not Christian or Pentecostal. If we say Pentecostal then we are somehow saying that we are not Apostolic or Christian. In reality the ONLY TRUE CHRISTIANS are Pentecostal (Acts 2 believing) Apostolic (following the doctrine taught by the Apostles who were instructed by Jesus) Christian (One who follows Christ). Sorry Daniel, you cannot separate them and make them something other than what they are. I will stick to my East Texas Redneck answer........you will not take my answer and twist it to make it what you want it to say......... and for the record.... please note that UPCI, ALJC, PAW or no other group was in my answer........ |

He did not twist any of my tries. I put them in any order and don't make sense of the thread at all. :nah |

I thought our main goal in life was to be 'Christlike'. :huh
How in the world could we possibly be 'Apostolic-like', or even 'Pentecostal-like' WITHOUT being 'Christlike' FIRST? :dunno |
christian is good for me, jesus freak, would be second, dt

Oops...I meant to vote "Christian" and I think I voted "Apostolic" by mistake. Must have been a Freudian slip of some sort. I can't go back and change it now, can I????

It would be interesting to know how people would vote if there was a stipulation that you had to accept all of the other people who described themselves using the same word as being one of you.
For example, if you chose Christian, you would have to accept Baptists, Assembly of God, Lutheran, Catholic, etc. who also described themselves as "Christian" as being one of you. I bet a lot more people would suddenly be fine with "Apostolic" or "Pentecostal". lol. |
