For All the FISHERMEN/WOMEN among us...EAT YOUR HEART OUT!

HeavenlyOne and I are making a trip to Arkansas to see my parents.

My dad has booked a guided trout fishing trip on the White River near Mountain Home for ALL DAY Saturday!

When I lived in the Memphis area, I used to fish the Little Red River and loved it but I never made it to the White River which is world reknown for its record sized trout. Especially big ole brown trout!

I trout fish here in WI too but its not the same as Arkansas fishing. Trout fishing here is hard and the big fish are rare.

HeavenlyOne has never trout fished...this will be an experience for her she won't soon forget.

I can't wait! Eat your heart out guys and gals! :D But wish us LUCK on Sat.!

I don't think folks fly fish much in the south. I think the closest we come to large scale fly fishing would trolling around the house with a fly swatter. :)

I don't fly fish and neither does my dad. We spincast. But when I fished on the Little Red, the locals taught me their method of trout fishing using a barrel swivel, bullet sinker and tiny hooks with either powerbait or salmon eggs. Cast out and let the current carry it down and BAM! they hit it.

I used to drive 3 hours to get to my favorite spot and in an hour I'd be limited out for the day! Lots of fun but too short! LOL!

I tried spincasting on the Little Red and didn't have any luck. I got tired of watching all the locals pulling in fish while I got nothing. I finally just asked some people what to do. They don't mind sharing their knowledge either. ~L~

I'm going to try both on the White River and see what happens.

HeavenlyOne 08-08-2007 12:44 PM

I will be taking pics. Of course, no matter what, LR will outfish me. She will outfish her dad too!

I can't wait. I'm excited.

Margies3 08-08-2007 12:49 PM

HO, are your kids going to fish too?

No. They will be staying with my sister in southern Illinois while we head down to LR's parent's for the weekend. It's too much to take them along too with only a minivan.

Trout fishing? For those two? HA! Unless our guide is a miracle worker, they'd run out of patience way too fast. LOL!

I'll take em fishing when we get back home.

How nice for you - a time to get away by yourself!!! Lucky you!!

Not that your kids are bad. They are definately not. But every mom needs some time once in a while when they can be "whatever your name is" and not just "mom" :)

I'm happy for ya, sis.

Having never tried the White, I'm anxious to see what it will produce compared to its Red neighbor. I used to catch really nice fat rainbows and browns on the Red. The browns are the most fun...they put up a good fight.

I thought it was that you talked slow but didn't sound like a hick. :D

I'd get you with a fish one way or another. Where you gonna run on a boat? Hmmmm?

You gonna jump overboard? I think not...if you won't touch a fish, are you going to swim with them and other boogy monsters lurking below? I think NOT! LOL!!!!!!!!!!:killinme

LadyRev and I got back last night after a wonderful weekend with her parents. Enjoy the pics, and EAT YOUR HEARTS OUT!

HeavenlyOne 08-15-2007 09:17 AM

That's 15 trout you are seeing, but we caught about a total of 50-60. Five is the limit per person, but we had fun anyway. The good looking guy is LR's father, who treated us to that excursion.

And I found out my mouth wrote a check that my behind couldn't cash. LR wasn't doing so well fishing with bait. Understand that I have never trout fished before last weekend and she mainly lure fishes for trout.

I was feeling pretty good that I was outfishing her with the bait. I bragged about how I would have a story to tell on AFF when we returned. At lunchtime, I had 14 catches to her 12. She said 'day ain't over' several times, but I continued being cocky!

Well, after lunch, since we had our catch, we tried other kinds of fishing, and lure fishing was popular. LR, in her comfort zone, started pulling them in quick! The fish liked her lures better than mine, and at the end of the day, the total was LR-21, HO-16.

She got the victory, and I left defeated!

But I did do better than her with bait!

Ah but she doesn't tell the whole story...

I'm actually very good at bait fishing. However, I had never fished this river before. The guide set my dad and I up with different bait than what HO was using. Different colors too. The purpose of this was to see what the fish are biting on. Well, my dad was pretty quick to switch over to HO's bait and colors after she started catching the most fish. However, I prefered to wait and experiment with bait and colors that I had been successful with on the Little Red River. I caught a couple this way before finally switching to what seemed to be the bait of the day...HO's bait and colors. I started catching more fish immediately.

While its true that I lure fish in Wisconsin, I had never had any luck in AR with lures and quickly switched to nothing but bait fishing (on the Little Red when I lived in TN and drove over). I ALWAYS caught my limit (and then some) with bait on the Little Red. So...HO is using my "experience with lures" and her lack of experience with the same as an EXCUSE for getting beat fair and square...well...it would be fair and square if HO didn't try to count fish that never even got in the net!!!!!!!!!!!! She didn't mention THAT either! She wanted to count every fish that got on the hook even if it got off before getting netted!

The moral to this story is twofold...

1. The race is not to the bragger that starts off with a bang but to those who run well to the very end!

2. Cheaters never win! :killinme

HO also set the record for catching the "baby" fish...poor thing had barely learned how to swim! :D

She also failed to mention that she wouldn't have caught 16 had it not been for me. She would have stopped at 12 except I felt sorry for her and gave her one of my lures so that she could catch a few more. LOL!

If it weren't for the guide giving you bait and me giving you the right lure, and both of us coaching you, you would have simply went for a scenic ride! :D
