Pastor Terry Crist

Has anyone heard of this man or his family? Pastor or Dr. Terry is a pastor out here in Phoenix area and he is a 5th generation pastor. His wife went to JCM and he talks like he is penetcostalish. He has preached on Acts 2:38. He is similar in preaching style to Kevin Gerald or Ed Young Jr.

He is awesome. He accually was asked to take over a charasmatic church out here as well. So they will combine the two churches as the next year goes. The church is Word of Grace with 4000-5000 members. I am not sure if he was UPC or not, but he is a Jesus name guy. You can look at his site www.citichurch.com. I know that Kevin and Sheila Gerald did something like this when they took over a larger church and transitioned to one large church.

What do you all think about this kinda stuff? I agree with it and believe it gives a great opportunity. What say ye?

CC1 08-15-2007 06:00 PM

Interesting. They have been married 23 years so she probably went to JCM a few years after I did. I don't recognize her maybe somebody else wil.

Their belief section of the website talks about a "triune" God but does not use the word "trinity".

They also speak of water baptism being a sacrament.

All of that is very similar to many exUPC PCI type churches belief statements so it is possible his beliefs are similar.

I did not see any mention of how he baptizes. I found it curious that the "about the pastors" section did not identify the denomination or denominations of the previous four generations of pastors in his family.

So he could be AOG, COG, Charismatic, or GIB!!

You are right. I know that Kurt Warner the AZ Cardinals back up QB goes there. I know at one time Kurt and his wife went to Roy Gerald church is St Louis which is pastored now by Shawn Craig from Phillips, Craig and Dean. That church was UPC. In one of his sermons he mentions Kevin and Sheila. So I know they are friends and of course Sheila Gerald is Steve Munsey's sister and Steve wife, pictured in my avatar is Kevin's sister.

Kurt Warner also was close to Joyce Myers during the time I lived in St Louis, and attended many of her functions.

EE, what part of that says they are not oneness? I have heard him reach about the HG and state that they baptize in Jesus name.

I have not been there personally, but I know some one that goes there. She loves it. I can not speak for him, but the church that he is taking over seems to be a trinitarian church at least that is what I have been taught by my former pastor. Though after careful review it seems as if they are Jesus name baptizers.

I have recently got to know about him. He seems very nice and is a good Bible teacher. Is he from the Illinois area? Would you say that he classifies as oneness? I would.

His family was from Illinois. They all moved to South Dakota with my parents in 1969. His Parents now live around Alex. La. They did help on the campground with the cooking. Great people! I've been out to Terry's Church when he first started there. He is like a brother to us.

"Careful review?" Nothing is in their statement about Jesus Name baptism. Christ Church has the same veiw of baptism but it clearly states they baptize in Jesus Name. The "Tri-une God?" a Oneness church???????????
NOT one word of their statement has anything that sounds Oneness. Even their statement about the HGB says nothing about tongues?

Can we find secret disciples AFTER Pentecost?

You will also note in their SOB story that it was the "everlasting son" who put on flesh to come to earth to reveal the father. That is no where near oneness theology.

Judith used to be Judy Williams, from Tulsa,Ok.Her dad, John D Williams was my pastor. Her grandparents were C.P. and Mary Williams who had the old Apostolic bible school in Tulsa.
Her parents sent her off to JCM to get her away from a guy she was dating. There she met Terry Crist and married him but did'nt tell her parents and continued to live in the girls dorm until I spilled the beans and told everyone.I don't think I've talked to her or Terry since lol.

He must have been a VERY understandting husband to be a young man and allow his wife to live in the girls dorm!!! No way that would have happened with me.

That is interesting about her name. I have a cousin who I grew up knowing as "Judy" who also switched to "Judith" later.

The this explains everything. JD. Williams died pastoring a Charismatic church(and there is long sad story here and you don't want to hear it) her mother is Mark Hanby's sister. C.P. & Mary Williams were legends and she certainly is not following their footsteps however her sister did. She died and was married to an Apostolic preacher.

They were very talented,John Williams was a very gifted guitar player and encouraged me to play music when I was a kid,he took quite a interest in us,took us to concerts, etc.Too bad he did'nt live up to what he preached.
Our church split because of his indiscretions and our assistant pastor, Gary Howard took the split and has done well.
Judy and Terry were into some weird stuff when they pastored in Tulsa. They would have everyone throw up into bags to get rid of bad spirits, attitudes or something bad.I believe they quit that stuff.I hope they are doing well but don't agree with their beliefs.

There are folks in IL with that name who are good friends of my brother (a UPCI pastor). The son has preached for Jim several times.

Not sure if it is the same family...

Sis. Barb,

As Sandra pointed out in one of her posts, the Crist family is from Illinois. In fact, I believe that Terry is our own beloved Breachmender's nephew. The patriarch of the Crist family pastored close by the Yohes in Illinois. From there Terry's dad followed the Yohes to South Dakota.

I am pretty sure that this is the same Crist family you are referencing.

Have a great night!

jwharv 08-17-2007 12:40 AM

I looked up the church that he is merging with and it is clearly a trinitarian church.........

My father pastor's the church that Terry Crist's grandfather pastored until his death (the church is about an hour and a half or so from St. Louis). His grandmother attended dad's church until her death a few years ago. And Terry Crist's father has ministered at the church numerous times. I've never met Terry, and don't know a whole lot about his beliefs, but the other Crist's that I have met, including his father and uncle, are outstanding people and fantastic preachers...and they are most definitely Oneness.

Sometimes the pedigree doesn't hold? Her grandparents on both sides were icons in the Apostolic movement. Their children forsook the ways of their parents. S.R. Hanby & C.P. Williams were patriarchs. So sad.

Let me introduce myself. I am a great-grandchild of both C.P. Williams & S.R. Hanby. I am Apostolic. My mother has passed. She died of cancer while trusting God for her healing. Some of their children may have forsaken, but not all. Please, before you speak, check your facts. I do not defend wrong. Have always attempted to stand for right. You may rest assured their is a remnant. As for the pedigree.....you speak of them as though they were dogs. I am tremendously thankful for my heritage. :-)
