Just Listened to JA Preach first night of TN Campmeeting....Disappointing....

Wow...I never thought I would say this about a Man I love to hear preach.. but wow... same schtick I heard him preach 15 years ago... no depth...just cheerleading and some "knocking Bible School Cuz I aint' thar"????

I'll try the next night.. tomorrow.. I sure hope things change...

I know there are some problems in Pentecost with some of what he's talking about as do many others.. but bring some game... some depth... and some leadership to the message... not just more he said..she said...

Anybody else notice this???

Lost 08-29-2007 02:50 PM

Refresh my memory, when was the last time you were invited to preach a camp meeting?

It's easy to criticize other people's preaching.

Will try tomorrow...

I usually pray and read the Word to get fresh mana; that seems to work for me. You should try it. :D

Do you think he missed it? Hmmmm? Could it be? Heaven forbid...:D

(I haven't heard the message so I really can't comment. But I just felt like posting anyway)

Did he miss it? Who am I to say.

Maybe next year, they'll invite you to come and preach TN camp.

Surely you wouldn't ever miss it.

Nope, I would NEVER miss it....no sirree not me. I'm perfection personified, yes I am. I'm so good that when I look in the mirror I just can't resist kissing myself....

OK, now I'm making myself sick...

THE ABOVE PORTION OF THIS POST IS A JOKE! ONLY A JOKE....as was my previous post.

Truthfully, theres a time for depth and theres a time to lighten up and live a little. JA does both quite well....But thats just MY opinion. ;)

That makes two of us. :)

JA is certainly colorful in his preaching style and has certainly effectively ministered well through the years. Nothing to be ashamed of, imo.

Now, Jeffrey, I am one of your biggest fans but you certainly don't need to go bragging on yourself... I always heard that he who toots his own horn always remains on the little end!:killinme:killinme

I LOVE to hear Bro. Arnold preach. However, from personal experience, I could comment on TN campmeetings...but I shall refrain from doing so. :D

Since when do you have to be a preacher to critique or criticize someone? JA preached a men's conference in OK a couple of years ago and some of men felt he insulted everyone the whole time he preached. He's still a great preacher even if he makes a mistake occasionally, and it's ok to voice an opinion about preachers.

You don't. But if you're not, you really don't know what it's like to carry the burden of the responsibility of sharing the Word to an entire camp, conference, etc and so its difficult to have unbias perspective as you offer your critique.

If he stepped on their toes, maybe they were standing in the wrong place to begin with. If the shoe fits.

Maybe God sent him to OK to knock the chip off their shoulders. :)

philjones 08-29-2007 03:47 PM

Lost,

I hope you know I was just having fun.. I am pretty sure you are doing the same by ignoring me but I just wanted to make sure my conscience was clean as I prepared to preach to a lowly congregation of a hundred or two. Certainly not the weight of a conference or an entire camp in mans eyes... but just as weighty in God's! I hope I don't miss it!:)

Was the title of the sermon, "Your vision will be your victory" I have heard him preach that about 7 times.

CC1 08-29-2007 05:00 PM

The personna that JA adopts seemed appropriate back in the mid to late 70's when he was a lot younger and I first heard him.

I went for many years without seeing / hearing him preach and then it was kind of shocking that 25 years later he still put out that "rough" personna.

For those around him a lot through the years it would probably not be shocking but under normal circumstances men get smoother as they get older. It was jarring to see an older man still so rough around the edges.

Steve Epley 08-29-2007 05:21 PM

I heard him once wasn't impressed to be honest I left and went to the resturant and ate.:hypercoffee

I'm with you there. Maybe he's slowing down from his yester years or something.

Hoovie 08-29-2007 05:39 PM

I am OK with being called an ignorant retard and stupid cat etc. by a minister of the gospel... I do expect him to recieve the same from those he preaches to though.

About 18 years ago I was a day speaker at a youth convention in which JA was the night speaker. During one of his messages he had all the PASTORS stand up...he then had all of the SAINTS INCLUDING YOUTH point at them...he then instructed them to say to the pastors, "You are the problem!" leaving the pastors standing there like deer in headlights....

Needless to say, That went over like the plague among the pastors, especially those who had disgruntled saints in the crowd that night...if you catch my drift...LOL!

Was this at Illinois camp?

ChTatum 08-29-2007 07:37 PM

Truth or urban legend?

Did JA actually throw a microphone at a guy in the sound booth?

If he did, until he repents and publically apologized to the person, I have no desire to hear him.

Can anyone say "Nicolaitanes"?

RandyWayne 08-29-2007 07:44 PM

He is a legend in many people's minds.

Not mine, as I have never heard him.

Left that "movement" years ago.

The term "movement" does not implicitly infer "bowel".

I have never heard the name before.... But then again, I have not been in the official organization for 20+ years.

I regularly see lists of preachers followed by a long list of posts proclaiming the virtues of such a celebrity line up. I cringe every time I see such a thread. It makes me want to play the theme song that was playing when the Blues Brothers entered the stage during their Chicago debut -"and furthermore we'd like to thank the fine officers of Chicago's finest who chose to be here today....."

He is one of the most popular/controversial preacher in UPC. He is very good, but is very much the same everytime he preaches. He has preached some of my favorite sermons ever, "Come out of your cave" --that one was awesome, "Miracle is looking for a vessel" "Your vision will be your victory" He is good, but rude sometime, though I am never offended by him some people do not like him.

No..it was in Canada....but I'm not saying he didn't do the same thing in illinois...he might have done it every time he preached that particular message...LOL

All I know is that there were several churches up there that voted annually on the pastor...and there were some pastoral changes right after that youth convention...

Sherri 08-29-2007 08:04 PM

A few of our people went to hear J.A. at Camp meeting this year (VERY few), since it was here in Jackson. They actually liked what he had to say, but were shocked at some of his wording. I think they thought the messages were good content, but the presentation was crude.

How about: "Unexplainable but Undeniable"...that was a good one.

Hesetmefree238 08-29-2007 08:16 PM

One thing you have to realize about Jeff Arnold. He was born and raised
in Brooklyn. He has both the accent and the attitude.

And his excuse is.......his background.

Didn't work for Paul.

Is he above Paul?

You don't know apparently if he threw a microphone. Plus you have never heard him. Jeff Arnold like him or leave him does not bother me. But to critic, sit in judgement, and then to call the UPCI a "movement" and refer to the bowels is an INSULT.

Get real!

Real?

The word you are looking for is "critique", not critic.

I openly profess to never having heard him, and am very curious about the microphone incident.

Can you verify or deny?

Please, exalted one, enlighten me.

(Perhaps the term "movement" applies to more than the UPCI, but when a rock is thrown into a pack of dogs, guess who barks?)
