Amnesia

My wife was relating a story to me of a man that had been in an accident and lost his memory. He couldn't remember his wife being his wife.

Do any of you know of someone filled with the Holy Ghost that has experienced amnesia after they were filled? Can damage to the brain cause one to forget they are filled?

Would the Holy Ghost depart because of a brain damage?

I love this question! Can you imagine if he was in a strange place and no one could figure out who his family/friends were? The man would have to be exposed to Pentecost all over again, recognize it as truth, and then he would have to go through all of the "seeking" and torment and fear and guilt all over again from scratch...

Yes, if he just happened into a Pentecostal church for some reason... too bad he couldn't catch it on television and have it jog his memory. :D

revrandy 09-11-2007 08:27 AM

Interesting topic... I don't think I have heard of any cases like this.... from what I have heard the memory recovery seems to come back to some slowly..

Sheltiedad 09-11-2007 08:30 AM

Obviously the guy would still be saved, but he wouldn't know he was saved until his memory came back... what if he watched television before his memory came back? Or wore shorts or something really horrible like that? He wouldn't have a Pentecostal yardstick to measure by so would only be able to use the worldly culture as a gauge for modesty, etc. This topic has all kinds of potential!

DOWN BOY!!!! STAY!!!! HEEL!!!!
Where's rolled up news paper when you need it? :nah :club :heeheehee

I was hoping to have some reasonable dialog not an anti-UPC/Standards diatribe.....

I really would like to know if there has been an actual case of someone having the Holy Ghost experiencing Amnesia.....

Sheltiedad 09-11-2007 11:23 AM

Well, my Pentecostal answer is that the person would still be filled even though he/she had a memory loss... but would still be responsible for his/her actions while having the memory loss... if the person died in that condition, they would still potentially be "saved", depending on what sins they had committed between the memory loss and their death.

(but it is so much fun the other way!) :D

Sheltiedad 09-11-2007 11:25 AM

By the way, I have heard that true amnesia is actually very rare (unlike in books and movies).

revrandy 09-11-2007 11:28 AM

Another way to see it would be someone having Alzheimer's...and forgetting who they were...

I do think that God is a Merciful and Rightous Judge... he will make the ultimate decision concerning folks when it comes...

There you go dragging us down.......

I have no doubt that the Holy Ghost still abides. I just was wondering if someone had every experienced this scenario. I find it interesting to think about. Wouldn't it be something if no Holy Ghost filled person had experienced amnesia because of protection from the same?

DON'T REMEMBER LOVING YOU
(Harlan Howard / Bobby Braddock)

John Conlee

I don't remember loving you
And I don't recall the things
You say you put me through
You tell me that you've had
A guilty conscience for so long
You say that you walked out on me
You say you did me wrong
Well, I just don't see how that could be true
'Cause I don't remember loving you

I don't remember loving you
You might talk to my doctor
He drops by each day at two
I get a funny feeling
When I look into your eyes
There's something in your smile
That gives my stomach butterflies
You must look like someone I once knew
But I don't remember loving you

CHORUS
I don't remember loving you
I heard you mention children
Did you say there's one or two?
You say I quit my job
And then I drank myself insane
You say that I ran down the highway
Screaming out your name
Well, that's not the sort of thing that I would do
No, I don't remember loving you

I don't remember loving you
I absolutely positively
Know that can't be true
But everyone I know here in this place
Is really strange
If you'll hand me my crayons
I'll be glad to take your name
In case I run across that guy you knew
But I don't remember loving you

I don't remember loving you
And I don't recall the things
You say you put me through
You tell me that you've had
A guilty conscience for so long
You say that you walked out on me
You say you did me wrong
Well, I just don't see how that could be true
'Cause I don't remember loving you

Does anyone know what the effects have been on a Holy Ghost filled person?

Sure He is and yes He will.

I know a UPC preacher that has it, he is my great-uncle. It goes in spurts though and he remembers who HE is, just not most other people (even if he has known them for 30 years). 20 minutes later he is back to normal again...

I know God is able to keep us even when we can't keep our selves because we are incapacitated.

Does he still feel the Spirit or speak in tongues when he's not his normal self? Does he talk about God?

I only see him once a year at our family reunion and haven't been in a church service with him in years... Coonskinner might know... he knows who I am talking about... I know that he always strikes me as a gentle man who is very at peace... I can say that for sure.

I suppose one of the few benefits is that he would get an opportunity to meet lots of new people and perhaps even make some new friends. :)

I know of a pastor's wife that has suffered amnesia. The story was related to me by someone from the church. She was the church secretary and very involved in the church - still is involved- The husband went out of the country for a couple of weeks and when he came back she had suffered amnesia. He has taken her to several specialists. They are scratching their heads- They felt she must have suffered some trauma while he was gone- but could not find any physical reason for her amnesia. She could not remember any of the church business or her family members. This happened a couple of years ago. From what I was told she is building a life from the time she suffered her memory loss. They brought in family members to help her with her children and with the church business. I know this is a strange story.

What if this was a woman who was full standards. Then she woke up. What would she think? Am I Amish?

berkeley 09-11-2007 05:28 PM

I'm not worried about amnesia. I'm worried about Alzheimer's. I don't want that.!! But if it comes to that, my prayer is that of everything that I don't remember, that I'll always remember a real experience with God.

How would she know what being Amish is?

I read somewhere that there is a new primetime television drama on this fall where the concept is that a woma who was not very nice has amnesia and apparently is a lot nicer as she starts over but discovers more about her old self each episode. Knowing TV she will probably slowly go from nice back to a horrible person!
