Leaving for Costa Rica Tomorrow!

I am leaving in the morning for San Pedro, Costa Rica for a missions trip with 18 other people from our church. Please pray for our safety and that we will have a lasting spiritual effect on these sweet people. We will be building on an orphanage, painting, wiring, etc. (hopefully not me wiring!!). We will also be ministering in the church there on Sunday and Wednesday nights and teaching an English class, as well as teaching in their large preschool. We will also get to do a feeding program for very poor children, which will be my favorite part!

I may be off here for a while, but I'll be thinking of you all!!:mama

Keep us posted Sister Sherri! Have a great time.

As you know, Rebecca is going in 2010 for a full college semester.

I think I may feel a call to missions!

One of my favorite places in all the world - Turrialba, CR. You can stay in a great little motel there for very little and then take the group on a white water rafting trip. One of the greatest memories in my life. I also love San Jose but Turrialba is a wonderful little town.

I have 28 years in electrical engineering and 21 years in electrical construction. If you have future Costa Rica wiring needs related to these kind of outcomes, get the word out and I'd certainly be willing to see if I can change my schedule to match.

What does a round-trip ticket to Costa Rica run with a few weeks pre-purchase?

Sis. C, you will most certainly be in my prayers. May God continue to bless the work of your hands and keep His guiding hand of protection upon you. :kittyhug

Sherri, I know you've been anticipating this trip for a long, long time. I'll certainly be praying God's blessings and protective hands on you and all you are with and that God will move in the hearts of the people you come in contact with.

Be sure to take lots of pictures (don't forget the camera!!) :)

Sister Alvear 09-21-2007 01:02 PM

We are praying much for your trip...keep us informed.

chosenbyone 09-21-2007 01:31 PM

I'll be praying for you while you are traveling. May the Lord give you strength for the journey and anointing to reach the lost in Costa Rica.

I can't wait to see the pictures!

Our tickets were $608 each out of Memphis, with one stop somewhere. Then the Bed & Breakfast (not sure the quality of this!!) and our meals for a week are $435.

Six of us are coming back next Saturday, so we won't miss two Sundays. The other 13 are coming back on Sunday and are getting a "fun" day on Saturday, which includes zip-lining over the top of the rain forest and visiting a volcano. We have one retired lady going who is going to do the zip-line; I'm not sure I'd have the guts to do it! I hate heights.

When we were there for vacation in 2006, we rode four wheelers through the rain forest - just the four of us in my family and a guide. It was awesome!! I like the rain forest from the ground - not sure about a cable over the top of it!

I DO have a reputation for this, don't I???

I have it packed. Now if I can just remember to use it!! I will have to email pics to someone and let them put them on, since The Mrs.'s instructions still have not registered in my fifty year old brain!

Sister Alvear 09-21-2007 03:04 PM

I will put them on the forum if you can e mail them to me...Be glad to help in anyway. Have a good trip.

Darcie 09-21-2007 03:31 PM

Have a wonderful trip! You will be in my prayers. Can't wait to hear all about it when you get back.

Zip-lining is a most incredible experience if you can make yourself get up there and jump off the gangplank. I did it one time. I thought I would completely freak out while I was up that high but once I finally made it to the plank that I jumped from, it was a feeling like nothing I've ever done before. I imagine parachuting would be that way.

Hope you have a great trip Sherri. We'll be in Costa Rica from Oct. 12 - 16.

philjones 09-21-2007 04:05 PM

Sherri,

We are praying for a bounty of blessing to abide with you as you minister to these folks in CR. I venture to say you may come away more blessed than those you went to bless! :)

Well, we could definitely use you there!! We have one guy who speaks Spanish, but he's been in the U.S. all his life, even though he's Mexican. So he doesn't use the Spanish much. Ashley was going to go originally and then she ended up not getting to, so there went our interpreter!
