Single and Married Women's Hair.

Should single women wear their down to show they are single ?:killinme
And should maried women wear their hair up to show they are married ?:sos

Revelationist 09-24-2007 08:22 PM

When they wear it up, is it still a covering? Does it cover any more than her husbands when worn up? : )

Scott Hutchinson 09-24-2007 08:24 PM

It covers their heads still and this way a single man can tell who not to ask out.

This is "light doctrine" we just can't tolerate it.:killinme

The Bible says whoever is on the housetop should not come down.

Mosby48 09-24-2007 09:02 PM

Several cultures have designated ways for the women to show whether or not they are married. So this could work for the UPC. Maybe we should make this resolution #5 and rush it to Tampa!

Scott Hutchinson 09-24-2007 09:04 PM

Since some don't believe in wedding bands the hair thing could tell who is available in church.

JaneEyre 09-24-2007 09:05 PM

Would this work: A beehive and poof = married ....long, flowing curls = single.

Please don't be offended, ScottHutchinson, but how a woman wears her hair should be left up to the woman - unless her husband or the pastor makes other requests. Down for single and up for married is not a rule I think most women would want.

Scott Hutchinson 09-24-2007 09:08 PM

I'm not offended and this not really serious,I'm just having fun.
Actually my wife wears her down, so she can use it as a whip on me.

Sister Alvear 09-24-2007 09:12 PM

yeah some churches harp on that in Brazil too...lol...
SH glad you are just teasing...when in the world do people have time to make up so many things?

I wear mine up but to make a doctrine of the fact hair up or hair down is foolish if you ask me...

Has one wiser than Solomon been able to solve this issue ?

of a truth my brother, i perceive that as a divine word from the most high, and also right, lol, i know that from much experience, dt:hypercoffee

DividedThigh 09-25-2007 08:43 AM

On a serious note scott, growing up in the south i can tell you that when i was young it actually was done that way in many churches, married women wore there hair up, and unmarried women didnt , most of the time, no joke, dt:hypercoffee

Scott Hutchinson 09-25-2007 08:45 AM

Yes I know DT it's funny but such things are taught in alot of churches.

Can you imagine the single & over age 55 women coming to church with their hair down?

My MIL did! She's always been "rebellious" and has never been traditional. Her hair is not very long anyway...

Just leave the pastor out of it, he has greater responsibility to be concerned with, how my wife wears her hair is no concern of his, and I will not dictate how his wife wears hers.

It should be.

MissBrattified 09-26-2007 08:41 AM

Our former pastor insisted that married women wear their hair up because it was too sensual worn down...which always seemed contradictory to me, since the teenage virgins should've been the ones looking...well...virginal, if indeed that were the case (about the hair).

Silliness. Some man's hangup becomes doctrine and women are embarrassed if they're "caught" with their hair down.

Around these parts they are pretty strict about it, but you also still have to divide when going to the alter. Men on one side women on the other.
