I'll agree that it was trend setting. I just think it set the wrong trend. Looks to me as though the Holy Ghost anointing has been replaced by lights and fog machines. I know you don't agree with me and most the people here don't either but I think Young Congress was sickening. Our young people do NOT nor will they ever go to such events. Thank God for Heritage Conf in Colorado and Fort Worth where our young people.

We might be "Few" on here but I promise you that the GYD got more than just a "Few" letters and complaints in the mail on this one.

Scott Hutchinson 09-25-2007 09:35 AM

Mother A ,I didn't post these pictures but they are of the UPCI youth congress, but I'm not sure where it was held.

I appreciate your view and your honesty.

I have spoken with the GYPres...They did receive a "few" complaints....It was to be expected.

But the positive reports and the encouraging words to the GYD "FAR OUTWEIGHED THE NEGATIVE"

Face it my brother.....its in the air....change is inevitable...there is plenty of room for you....but you will not stop it...no agenda will stop it...it is ordained and sent from the very throne itself.

WE CAN hold on to what he have been taught in the past AND look ahead to better things.

lol I know...

I think electrics look cooler and, since once they go through amps and such they sound the same, that is really the most important thing...

I have a cool electric that has like "roots" on it and stuff... I'm not very good, but kick up the distortion and I sound pretty good }=o)

We must be talking to different people because what I heard was not what you wrote.

There is NO room for me in this new changing org. I will leave. One of the reasons I got a license in the UPC was because of their stance against TV. If they change i'm not really leaving them but they are leaving me. I'm right where i've always been. I'm sure the org will be fine without me (and several others) and my money.

looks like a comtemporary concert looks nothing like church.

I know that I'm hard headed, but looks to me like a lot of "performing" was going on.

Elizabeth 09-25-2007 10:11 AM

God Bless these young people! They looked dedicated to me and doing something old in a new way--I think its great!

Sister Alvear 09-25-2007 10:12 AM

I let my young people use a fog machine for one of their skits. I don´t see any harm unless people use it instead of the real power of God. I don´t know because I am thousands of miles from the states and it´s ever changing ideas...We rented a rain machine for their special service two years ago and their theme was about rain. I am old so in my time of being a young person we didn´t have anything like people use today...
I told our young people the rule is this: If these things take place of the pw=ower of God then out the door they go...if they are used to help draw other young people to Christ then I will rent them what they want for their special services.
Those that have looked though the pictues on the missionary thread will see that I work in a country that loves special outfits for everything. I think we should consider culture, age and many things.
Once an american said to me you ought to line up a certain girl...I begin weeping and told the American, "if you only know where she is coming from..."

I am not talking about people continuing on and on in sin but LOVE is the first fruit of a christian...and not a white shirt and a lady with hair up...
sorry...and I am probably considered ultra con...whatever that implies...

Sister Alvear 09-25-2007 10:13 AM

What would be wrong with a Jesus Name concert?

You could not be more wrong....You "looker" can be deceiving!

MissBrattified 09-25-2007 10:17 AM

Obviously God CANNOT move in a house filled with worshipers if He is distracted by lights and fog. Doesn't take a big brain to figure that out! :coffee2

Those pictures are very deceiving. Taken from angles that make the scene look a lot "cooler" that it really was.

Someone loaned me the videos and I was very disappointed. Looked like a lot of the same old UPC that I have known all my life. A lot of suites and ties with big knots.

The band looked like they had great potential if they could just get a little more loose and groovy. They looked very nervous. I was really expecting high quality video similar to Alexandria or First Apostolic in Maryville, TN.

The music was good. They sang typical praise and worship stuff with a couple of "cool" songs thrown in.

It looks like the UPC is moving forward although very slowly. I just got the impression that a lot of it is forced and they are not really used to really rocking out.

Of course you have to give them the benefit of the doubt. They were in front of a huge crowd and away from their home territory and probably playing and singing with people that were not on their usual praise team.

I am glad to see them at least trying to fulfill the needs of our younger generation.

It didn't look like a performance at all the youth looked very sincere.

:drama

How can anyone judge that??? Good grief...I'd rather they perform for God and in the service of God than to use their talents and energy in some club somewhere....

BTW, what does "church" look like?

Do you think "church" looked to Paul like it does to even the most conservative country church among us? You think Paul's "church" looked like a twangy guitar and some half baked singer leading "It's All In Him?" Do you think Paul's "church" looked like some white sideing church with its wood pulpit and its red faced screaming preacher hollering something about "git those sleeves past your naked elbows?"

Laughable, if it weren't so pathetic....

We had lots to reieve the Holy Ghost here in Brazil...
I cannot speak for the states but here God is moving in an awesome way.

I don´t think kids wanting certain things makes them lose out with God...We all want a computer don´t we?

I am not talking about some Hollywood gay sex concert...however good clean worship is what kids need...had a bunch at my house last night...I don´t care for all their songs but I am not 16 either...

You have a very wise spirit. I think if we approuch ministry with a clean heart and a loving spirit then we can finally allow HIM to move in us.

Also, fog machines are used so that the beam of certain spotlights and lazers can be seen traveling.

Sister Alvear 09-25-2007 10:44 AM

I think some may have it out with the UPC but I am not and have never been UPC so any remarks consider them NOT relating in any way to a group I hold no card with. Just personal opinions of an old missionary.

You almost sound . . . liberal!!! :sos

Sister Alvear 09-25-2007 10:46 AM

I have a great love for young people and ours know that. I laughed so hard when they asked me to help them rent a rain machine I thought real water would be coming out...it was just silver paper chopped in fine peices...they love it...
