Hair Question For Men ?

It seems to me that the good ole fashioned barber shop is almost a time of the past.
So men where do you get your hair cut ?

MissBrattified 10-02-2007 07:20 PM

NOT a man...but I voted for how my husband gets his cut.

Scott Hutchinson 10-02-2007 07:21 PM

My wife does my little bit of hair,I get a really close buzz cut.
I like going to old fashioned barber shops but even in small town,South AL, the old fashioned 4 and 5 dollar barbers are all about gone.
I ain't going to a beauty shop and paying 8 to 12 bucks to get my peach fuzz whacked.

Scott Hutchinson 10-02-2007 07:22 PM

Hey NLYP this might get folk's mind off of RES.4 and brethren departing.

COOPER 10-02-2007 07:31 PM

And how would that be, Abby? I hope you didn't say, "your wife".

Who cuts mine? Funny that you ask. I have had mine cut by all of the above.

pelathais 10-02-2007 08:12 PM

I am currently under the vow of the Nazarite and do not cut my hair. When ha'aretz is again in the hands of the Chosen People I will have completed my vow. Numbers 6.

Nahum 10-02-2007 08:14 PM

3/8 buzz over all of my beautiful, shiny dome.

A procedure that takes five minutes costs me $15.00.

Insane.

No...I don't cut it! I beg him to let me, but he refuses with some stupid excuse about how one time I gapped it over his ear and he was embarrassed until it grew back out! As if I haven't improved since then....:heeheehee

Jeff usually goes to a salon. Although, there is an old-fashioned barber shop here that is definitely a man's world...I like to take Jeffrey there every now and then. They have picture albums with all their deer/duck/moose/rabbit/turkey/whateverkindofgameyoucanname which all the customers contribute to...and the barber gives Jeffrey a penny to get gum when he's done. Its one place I feel perfectly comfortable walking Jeffrey (age 5) in, and then waiting for him outside.

So, your wife doesn't cut your husband's hair? Whew! That's a real good thing! :hypercoffee

Scott Hutchinson 10-02-2007 08:19 PM

I like that old fashioned hair tonic too,but I don't have much hair to slick it on.
There used to be a barber in Grove Hill.AL who would sell you a big bottle of Lucky Tiger hair tonic for 5 bucks.

"Hair Question for Men" isn't that like "Hair Club for Men?"

LaGirl 10-02-2007 08:26 PM

we have 2 A Old Fashioned Barber Shops. my son gets his hair cut in one. the cost is 9.00, but i give 12.00. i have cut my husbands hair for about 11 years now. i would cut my sons, but he moves around too much!!!! the kids wont stay still.

Scott Hutchinson 10-02-2007 08:30 PM

My grandfather Quintis Barre, who is deceased used to be an old fashioned barber in Sweetwater,AL.
Everytime you spent the summer with him ,or you went to visit him he always said you needed a hair-cut and before you left his house you got a side-wall job.
Now he could give a crew-cut or a flat top wonderfully.

It's ok. You're chuck full o' squid. I understand. I, on the other hand, am entirely full of something different.

So could there be a resolution in next years GC if men should be allowed to shave their heads in the UPC? Delta soundman seems to be leading the charge! Just curious

drummerboy_dave 10-02-2007 08:35 PM

Has anyone had an old fashioned straight razor shave? I haven't.

My grandfather could do it, but they rarely did it at his shop, He would do that for sick neighbors and such.

chseeads 10-02-2007 08:39 PM

I didn't know how to vote exactly, so I picked Female Stylist...

I used to go to an old fashioned barber shop, until my best friend's wife started cutting my hair. So now she's my female stylist. lol

Scott Hutchinson 10-02-2007 08:45 PM

Yes some guys go to women beauty shops, but it seems like old fashioned barbers give better cuts.
Before I got married I went to a MR.MOORE In Thomasville,AL who charged 4 bucks he blocked the back and everything,he was a barber in the army in WW2, I think He still cuts hair.
That was back in my sawmill working days.

10$ at a barber. 9$ for the cut and 1$ tip

I can see I'm getting clipped here. I go to an old fashioned barber shop and still pay $10!!! Even worse, I wear my hair like you do!

Years ago, I went to a barber who gave shaves with a straight razor. I did it a couple of times but never really could relax and enjoy it. Good shave though. Like Bro. Scott, I liked the tonic's smell. Also you could read all the old magazines and see what you missed 3 years ago!

Our thinning hair makes us look wise.

The chairs that went up and down are pretty comfortable.

FRINGE_NUTTER 10-02-2007 09:14 PM

Cost is $10 to $12. I still have quite a head of hair for an old fella.

Scott Hutchinson 10-03-2007 11:18 AM

There is a older gentleman who is retired in my community ,who used to be a full-time barber.
He has a little building by his house off an old dirt road , and he cuts hair on wednesdays since my wife isn't feeling the greatest today, I went to him today.
He only charges 5 bucks and he blocked the back and everything.
He put the sheet on me and everything.
Btw my wife thinks me posting about this is goofy.

Actually in our small town we have two small $4 shops with the pole and everything. That is were my dad goes....he has lots of thick hair!

Scott Hutchinson 10-03-2007 11:35 AM

That's interesting that they still have the poles.
Most don't know it but years ago ,many Barbers used to do blood letting with leaches and that's where the poles came from.

:happydanceI knew a couple of guys where I worked who would go down to Vietnamese-town and have their haircut for $2.00. I always wondered if those girls where brought to this country for slave labor.

There is nothing worse than a bad haircut. I won't disclose what I pay for my haircut, but when I walk in I am greeted with a cold beverage, treated to green tea facial while getting a neck and scalp massage before I sit in the chair. I am usually pretty thrifty, but I don't mind paying a little extra for a good cut and lots of attention.:kickcan

Scott Hutchinson 10-03-2007 12:42 PM

Chosenbyone now that is a upscale barber shop, not a Floyd Lawson Andy Griffith type of place.
You city slicker you.

DividedThigh 10-03-2007 12:45 PM

i just want a decent hair cut, doesnt matter to me who does it as long as it looks ok, costs 14 around here, i live in the wrong place for cheap haircuts, lol,dt:hypercoffee
