Oral Roberts University Leadership in Trouble
 

There is some kind of major lawsuit against Richard & Lindsay Roberts & other leaders by three government teachers/deans who were recently fired. The list of charges is HUGE, including misappropriation of funds, special favors and scholarships given to unqualified friends, etc. I really hope it's not true, and is just some vendetta by these teachers, but sadly I don't really doubt most of it. Ashley got a great education there, but there were some problems.

Maybe triumphant1 has more insights on this???????

Well, Sister maybe all of that will help them seek truth and get baptized in Jesus name and filled with the Holy Ghost with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues. :)

trying to get people to give money and said God was going to kill him if he didn't come up with X amount of dollars.

Wow. I had to look it up - but "God" hasn't killed him yet. OR is still going at 89 years old.

This article says he's a "former faith healer." Meaning he doesn't have faith any longer? Or that he doesn't heal any longer? Is he still on TV and/or making appearances?

He doesn't have his tv or radio programs any more.
I think he does occasionally appear on TBN.

If I were sick - I sure would not come to YOU to pray because YOU would have to judge me first to bring me under your control.

The real blessing Oral Roberts needs is to be baptized in Jesus name and to be in filled with the Holy Ghost with speaking in tongues. You should go and pray Oral Roberts through to snot bubbles and tears until he is speaking in tongues.

A sad reality of life is that we are known for our screw ups more than any good we do.

I am not a big Oral Roberts fan but it is a shame to see all of the good he has done for Chrisitianity be negated by some extremely poor judgement in his effort to raise money for his hospital.

Anyone who has researched that whole thing knows that his motives for the hospital were absolutely admirable. However it is clear that in his zeal to finish something he felt God wanted him to do he crossed a line.

He very well may have had a private dream or vision that God was going to take him if he didn't complete the project or it may have just been spicy mexican food eaten before he went to sleep combined with his human desire to complete it and the stress he was feeling. In any case he was absolutely wrong in using that incident as a lever in fund raising. It brought terrible ridicule on him, ORU, and Christians in general for it to appear he was saying God was holding him hostage and he would die if he didn't raise the money. I don't think he meant it that way but that was the end result.

Now critics focus on that lapse in judgment and not how this man worked tirelessly to build a University that is Christian based, etc.

I also think what hurts his legacy is t he strong father / weak son syndrome. I think Richard's divorce, remarriage, and extravagent lifestyle are worthy of criticism.

I think that there may be some truth to some of the allegations but on the same token, I think many of the spending claims would probably fall under allowable housing allowances and stuff....not saying that there might be some extravagance...but I think that these particular teachers just have it in for Richard and the rest involved by the way they are coming across on the news here.

They are claiming some issues like using oru body guards for trips...well who else will travel with them if not the guards that are paid to watch them...does the Secret Service not go on vacation with the president?...do I think they always need a guard...don't know but there are plenty of kooks that follow them...Billy Joe doesn't have security...and he has gotten punched in the face in his own altar service...by a man that had verbally threatened Richard for years....

They are also claiming abuse of giving some of their kids friends entrance and scholarships into the school who didn't match the criteria....that is called "special student status" and all universities are allowed a certain percentage of those every year by the accreditation standards and all students are approved thru them...this is not uncommon.

Richard went on record yesterday at the chapel service and said that these profs are just disgruntled and the truth will vindicate the school and his family. It is interesting to note that this is not the only lawsuit brought by this attorney and he has not won any of the others according to Richard.

One thing they said was that the Roberts family uses the jet for personal stuff like a trip by their daughter for spring break...truth be told, it is their plane they should get to use it...

Do I think the Roberts get a lot...of course they do...but it was Oral Robert who built the school and Richards salary is not out of line with the other collage presidents in Oklahoma...

They also are griping about a mayoral election...republican of course...that one gripes me because these Democrats parade across University and Church platforms all across the nation while campaigning and no on seems to notice the tax exempt conflict there.....

I was going to say, that sounds like a softer side to Coonskinner that I hadn't heard before. LOL. But those are some excellent thoughts, especially about judgment.

I think Oral Roberts is an honorable man of God. I think Richard and Lindsay "inherited" his position only because of Richard's dad and not because they have done anything to deserve it. I doubt if O.R. even knows what is happening; I hope they have kept it from him. I saw him on TV a few months back and the man is very anointed. I have NEVER gotten anything from Richard & Lindsay's show though.

I hope this whole mess is just a result of some disgruntled professors who have lost their jobs. I read a lot of comments by students and former students; they seem to have opinions as far as the east is from the west!!

Since this is a private university and not a public one, I'm not sure if they can be held accountable for funds used, even if they used them without wisdom. Do the Roberts actually own ORU? If so, then I guess they can do whatever they want with the funds, even if we would consider it unwise or even unscrupulous. It's kind of like a pastor who can get all the tithe. He can either use it wisely or he can abuse it.

Just my thoughts...

I still wouldn't trade Ashley's years there; it was an awesome place to study!

Elder CS and I have disagreed on some things, and it is likely we continue to do so, but he has earned my respect because of his unwillingness to use broad-brush tactics as have others on both ends of the spectrum.

Does anyone here have any knowledge if Oral Roberts teaches the Mighty God in Christ and that Jesus is the Father and water baptism is the only way to salvation? Oral Roberts is as lost as Amelia Earhart. As for Oral Robert being a great man of God, wouldn't he have to be of God first?
