Friday Night Lights

Watching a TV program called Friday Night Lights. One of the high school students on the show just got baptized. I figured they'd put her down in the titles...but SHOCKER they baptized saying , " in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ."

See TV is allready getting the message out.:killinme

Yes, but did they hold her under long enough?

SDG 10-05-2007 09:25 PM

Did KP do the "baptizing"?

I wonder if this was the episode that CC1 talked about being done at WOP or Promiseland.

I recorded the show on my HD DVR earlier toinight and just now fastforwarded it through the episode to the baptism scene.

As I knew it would be it was indeed Kenneth Phillips doing the baptism in a creek and of course he did it in the name of Jesus!

The person also went completely down under the water for those of you concerned about fictional characters being baptized correctly.

I wonder how many Christians watching will catch the words used in baptism and how it differs from what was said over most of them.

WARNING FOR HYPERSENSITIVE OLD TIME ONENESS PENTECOSTALS - Should you decide to watch this episode be forewarned that the scene just before the baptism one at the creek is of teenagers at a swimming pool and the woman are not swimming in their blue jean skirts!!!!

Just saw the scene, I yelled at the TV saying to Jeanie, there is my old Pastor. Wonderful!!!!

Does anyone know the details of how this came into being?

Yes. I was in Austin on business earlier this summer when KP talked about it form the pulpit.

Some of the producers of Friday Night Lights (a big budget prime time network television drama filmed in the Ausitn, TX area) knew Pastor Phillips from years ago.

When the writers conceived this storyline where one of the main characters is baptized they thought of KP and called the church to speak with him.

KP joked frm the pulpit that he first asked them if they were looking for Randy Phillips or the "old man". They said "the old man!".

Kenneth Phillips listened to the scene they wanted him to play the baptizing preacher in and told them he would do it but only if he could do it his way.

His way of course was baptizing in the name of Jesus Christ.

I believe they also filmed some scenes at Promiseland church after church on a Wednesday night this summer. I don't know if those scenes were cut or if they will appear in a later episode.

This is truly amazing! I think God orchestrated it all, and of all the preachers to

be playing that role-Kenneth Phillips would be my pick as well. I am so

touched by this story, I have tears in my eyes! Of all the testimonies I have

heard about KP, what has stuck me the most about him is the fact he has a

heart for souls, and those souls being baptized in Jesus Name!

I am so glad God didn't leave it up to me to "catch the words used in baptism".

It was in a creek instead of a church. I was SHOCKED when I heard the preacher say in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ. It was awesome to hear!

I was wondering if this was what you had mentioned a while back but then when they baptized in a creek, I wasn't sure.

True Believer 10-06-2007 10:27 AM

Wouldn't that have to do with their motive? If they truly believed, wouldn't it be valid? If they didn't they just got wet!

MrsMcD 10-06-2007 11:10 AM

Last night's show is on USA right now Eastern time.

I agree. I had never seen the show until last night and then I only saw the first fifteen minutes. I told my husband that our son could NOT watch the show. He is only eleven and it had too much boyfriend, girlfriend, talking back to parents and beer drinking teens in it.

Sound like a good edifying show for the nightly family gatherings. (TIC)

My question would be why, if this post is what it is all about, would ANYONE that claims Christianity watch it. But I guess since KP faked baptizing someone in Jesus name, it has now had its sins remitted, and is ok to watch.

:ernie

MrsMcD 10-19-2007 07:31 PM

Anyone watching?

RandyWayne 10-19-2007 07:35 PM

Only Stargate Atlantis......

MrsMcD 10-19-2007 07:41 PM

They showed KP preaching at his church. I assume it was his church.

The girl was baptized in a river. They for sure did not baptize her using Matt 28:19.
