At the Park Today a Woman was Threatened with Gun

I was at the park today with my kids.

I was approached by a woman who told me a hour or 2 before had her purse stolen and car hyjacked.

A 20ish kid went up to her and her friend and said "I have a gun hand over your purse"
"Are you kidding me?" Her friend shouted.
"Hand over your purse-"
"Are you kidding me?" her friend repeated
"Blank -Blank do you want to Blank see if I am kidding, hand over the purse"

He took her wallet and fished for he keys, and took off in her car.

This area really scares me, because there was a young man that was found dead hanging in one of the trees. This is a newer park too-

Scary days we are living in!

berkeley 10-10-2007 03:46 PM

Go to a different park.

Darcie 10-10-2007 03:47 PM

Wow lady! Berkley may have a point.

tamor 10-10-2007 03:47 PM

Stay away from that park!!

rgcraig 10-10-2007 03:49 PM

Were you in Memphis - - this happens daily!

rgcraig 10-10-2007 03:50 PM

1 to 2 hours after the mugging.

SDG 10-10-2007 03:51 PM

What's up w/ the guns lately ... I'm all for the 2cd amendment ... but this seems to out of control!!! It must a demonic assault.

Yeah really. I would have been long gone. But - if she doesn't know Jeannie, and "approached" her, she may be part of a heist herself.....

That was my first instinct when I read that.

Perhaps a moronic assault.

I've had guns my whole life and I've never shot anyone that didn't need it! :drawguns :hunter

Or she was looking for a hand out...........In a situation like this the best thing to do is call the police.

She stuck around to "warn" the other mom's.

This park is up the street from our house, it's huge and spread out like a big soccer field.

Elizabeth 10-11-2007 09:49 AM

When she was still talking to me she was shaking from the event.

She said she didn't want it to happen to anyone else and described the man that took the car. And told me to be careful and not to trust anyone like she did kind of a thing.

Her little girl was with her, we chatted like I already knew her. Then she left.

I believed her, she just seemed upset and wanted to talk about it. She couldn't get revenge so she just went around talking to people at the park.

Well in all actuality I do not know when exactly from the time I got there that her car was stolen.

Plus we drove by the park (my kid left his shoe) and there were cops all over talking to the neighbors close by. Could be a coincidence, but I believe the lady..its hard to convey the sincerity and all the elements of the conversation.

One thing about this park is that it is spread out, you can see anyone coming yards away, so I dont think she felt she was in any danger at all, no one can even hide behind the skinny trees either.

The intent of this thread was just to inform what happened at the park yesterday--it was in no means to start a discussion to cast doubt and blame on this poor woman.

My apologies. I wasn't trying to cast doubt and blame it was just a word of caution for you. Sometimes (apparently not in this case) folks pretend to be in trouble to prey upon someone that is good hearted enough to care. :nah

berkeley 10-11-2007 11:47 AM

Shout it from the roof tops! Stay clear of Manteca's version of Central Park.. *grin*

We're just a bunch of doubting posters......:nod

No problems here. I deal with prisoners every week and you have to keep your skeptical radar working at all times.

How did it all turn out?

berkeley 10-11-2007 12:07 PM

That is not a park. That is a field of grass.

I havent heard anything yet, cant say Im crazy about the PD in this area.

You know I pretty skeptical myself, but this woman pretty much had the "mom" thing going on, and didnt ask for a thing!

For the most part this area is pretty quite except for a rash of crimes in the neighborhood.

Esther 10-11-2007 12:12 PM

We had a murder of a 77 man last night around 9pm close to home. They stole his car and burned it.

Sounds like a con! The best con artists are the non-assuming, blend in the crowd, doey-eyed people that would rob you in a heartbeat.

The Lord had his angels with you that day...no doubt!

Seriously I think I wouldn't know the difference between a con and when someone is genuinely upset.

She didn't ask for one thing, she told me what happened, said to be careful and she left.

Tell me how is that a con???

Elizabeth 10-11-2007 07:00 PM

I called the Police to see if what happened at the Park Yesterday was True

I must have just did a horrible job of explaining what happened yesterday, because many thought it was a con.(which is fine)

So I called the police department to substantiate whether the crime was true or not.

I mean after all maybe I am just a gullible person and others can see something that I don't.

Well I just got off the phone with the police and he said that there WAS indeed a report filed regarding crime in question yesterday.

Well, let me be the first to admit I was wrong. I didn't mean any disrespect, I just thought it was a bit peculiar that she would be at the park hours after being a victim of a crime. I apologize...

Thanks! (you dont really need to apologize)

I guess my attempts of on the job reporting failed!!

I should have said a woman car was hijacked at the park today and left it at that.

I think she was there waiting for her husband to pick her up. I'm not really sure how long she was there.

Add me to that list too!

You all just had me thinking--no need for apologies.
