Geron Davis
I have always enjoyed his music. Does anyone know his background? Just wondering,... schooling etc.:choir
|
Geron grew up the son of a UPC minister. His teenage years at least he lived and went to school in the Savannah, TN area where his dad still pastors a UPC church. He attended Bible school in Jackson, MS. He was quite talented even as a young kid on the piano.
|
and now? I take it he is no longer UPC? How is his music percieved by the UPC since I do still hear many of his song being performed?:choir I think he has written some of the most beautiful lyrics I have ever heard.
|
I know he lives in the middle TN area and if I'm not mistaken attends Christ Church in N'ville. He has written some beautiful songs and I think a lot of UPC churches do sing his material. I don't know if he is "used" in UPC churches with his group in concert or with choir clinics. I would say most likely not in conservative churches.

As far as Geron Davis is concerned, I have gotten out all of my old cassette tapes and record LPs and put them on my computers hard drive, so that I can make CD's of them. I can still remember my pastor attending "because of the times" meetings at The Pentecostals of Alexandria in the 1980's and bringing back music tapes for us to listen to.
I have thee Davis/Pedigo albums (When he sang with his then wife becky Davis and Tim Pedigo , they formed a group called Davis/Pedigo) I USED to have a bunch of "because of the times" music cassettes when he was the minister of music at The Pentecostals of Alexandria UPC church in the 1980's...but they fell apart! He really did some fantastic tunes such as "Flame in the night" , " Walls come down", "Keep Believing" and a ton of others I wish I could have been able to keep! One that I WAS able to find and keep was "Watergrave" with Sis. Mickey Mangun singing and Geron and his band playing. They also have this and other tunes when he was at the Pentecostals of Alexandria here at dianas site! If you want to hear some of the songs in the 1980's he did while he was at the Pentecostals of Alexandria...check it out. There are four web pages of older POA stuff, but you have to look for it, as they are scattered on the site. http://www.gospelmusicnet.com/ A good friend of mine, Rod Milbourne helped Gerons dads church out for a little while, because they did not have a music minister. Gerons dad has a really nice church from what I am told.' Looking at the picture on his website, he now sings with a group called "kindred souls"...I don't think he is UPC anymore. Here is that site: http://gerondavisandkindredsouls.com/ |

Well I had heard that he was divorced from her, but I was wrong apparently. Sorry for the confusion.

Becky Davis has a voice I have always loved.I remember hearing Mickey Mangun say that Becky was her favorite singer.

One song that I still have of her's is "don't stop praying for me" ...I love that song. It is very powerful in it's message. |
Geron's group "Kindred Souls" is made up of Geron, his wife Becky, Geron's sister and her husband.
They attend Christ Church Nashville but travel a lot so are not there many weekends. A few years ago they started a Youth Choir at CC that performs a few times a year at church including the annual CC music conference and the last two years the Youth Choir has toured some in the summer. I beleive the Youth Choir CD that came out last year (the group is called Prayze Choir I think) was nominated for either a Dove award or a grammy. I forgot which. |
Becky and Geron Davis
Just wondering if anyone knows how I can get a copy of the old Davis/Pedigo recording. I am specifically looking for "Don't Stop Praying for Me".
Any help would be much appreciated! |
