Pastor Joe Parker Leaving New Heart Worship Center After 30 Years!

I just happend by the New Heart Worship Center in Seattle's website and to my surprise this Sunday is pastor's Joe & Jean Parker's last Sunday there after 30 years.

Joe and Jean (Wilma) started this church as a Home Missions work 30 years ago. After 30 years I figured they were there for life!

The website says that Gordan Banks is becoming the new pastor at New Heart and that Joe is leaving to take the pastorate of The Valley Church in Caldwell, Idaho.

Does anyone know who this Gordan Banks is?

Anybody know anything about the Valley Church in Caldwell, Idaho? I found their website but there is no mention of staff, etc.

I believe Gordon Banks is an ex-Dallas Cowboy, and has been on the ministerial staff at Covenant Church in Carrollton, Texas for several years. I have listened to him on their radio program several times, his is a very good speaker, teacher, preacher.

Here is the Staff Page.

If I'm not mistaken, I think that Pastor Norman Rutzen was instrumental in the formation of the "Global" group.

timlan2057 10-26-2007 06:30 AM

Norman Rutzen was district superintendent of the Idaho District back in the 1980s.

I believe he is/was C. H. Yadon's son-in-law.

He's no doubt wanting to retire.

CC1, I don't know if you remember his daughter Renae - looks like she's married to the assistant pastor.

She went to JCM with you during the 1978-1979 school year.

I remember Renae and I saw Jewell Dillon's name on the website also!

Wayne Nigh is also another old "UPC" name from the old PCI heritage.

I find this very interesting, the last time I saw Joe was at that church, Valley Church was pastored by Norman Rutzen, former DS of the Idaho District who left when the Yadon's pulled out, his wife is a Yadon.

Joe is a great guy and will tell you that if people can stay in the UPC anyway possible, to do it.

The Caldwell church runs about 800 people, just built a new building in 03.

I pastored the church that Wayne Nigh left, after being there, I understand why he left. He is a good guy, he currently travels between the states and Asia doing short term missions trips.

Joe will be closer to his brother Jesse who pastors a UPC church in eastern OR that runs 200 or so. Large by OR UPC terms. As most know, they are nephews of Ike Terry by the fact that their aunt was his first wife.

I am new to the boards, so excuse me for just jumping in here.

I grew up in Joe Parker's church, before he left the UPC. My dad helped build their building in Federal Way. It's sad to see them leave Wa. Does anyone know if they still hold to the Oneness teaching? I checked out their website, but their statement of faith was just vague enough to make me question what exactly they believe.

I believe they are still Onenes and baptize in Jesus name but like a lot of exUPC chuches including Christ Church Nashville and Mike Haye's Covenant Church in the Dallas area they do not demonize trinitarians or claim they believe in 3 gods.

They certainly built a beautiful new building back a few years ago. Felicity and I attended the dedication service.

My wife is an old friend but we have only seen them a couple of times over the last few decades.

We had dinner with them one night of the 1999 Nashville GC and a few years before that Jean spent the night with us in Austin on a quick visit.

I hate that we never made it up there to visit them and be in service. We had always meant to do so. Looks like now we will have to travel to Idaho to see them!

We had connections with the church in Boise, Idaho through the Cobbs, who were missionaries in Hong Kong when we were there. Bro. Nigh is Sis. Cobb's brother. Both the Nighs and the Rutzens visited Hong Kong while we were there.

When we first arrived in Surrey, I still belonged to Global, (ACOP allowed me to belong to Global since it was a US org. and they are strictly Canadian). Joe Parker was the Northwest Regional Director, so that is how we happened to attend his dedication service.

Joe and Jean will be having their installation celebration at Valley Church in Caldwell, Id on Friday November 30th at 7pm. Special Guest will be Pastors Mike & Kathy Hays and Pastors Randy & Renee Clark. It will be a grand time.

800 people...in Caldwell? I must have lived under a rock when I lived there. Seriously..that's like, a huge percentage of the population (ok, not really but it's probably near 40k population right now..an 800 person church is substantial...). lol Ok, after looking at the website, I must really have been under a rock. I should recognize the church, I drove past where it says it is several times a day for quite awhile, but I can not place it whatsoever.

Ok, this is going to sound sissiefied, but JP's wife taught me how to drive a "stick" in her old VW!!!! Then she made the BEST french dip sandwiches!!!!

Eddie has served on an outside church board with Gordon for years. He is an ex pro football guy and is a great man of God. He'll do well in Seattle. Joe loves the country - hunting, fishing, etc. He will probably love the area where he's relocating much more than the city.

If I could have life the way I wanted it, I would move my family to Boise/Caldwell area and attend the Rutzens church. My sister lives in Bosie. I love that part of the world. The mountains are so beautiful!!

I am from Eastern Oregon. I have fond memories as a teenager fellowhipping with The Parkers young people. We had fun & crazy times together.

As I understand it Joe Parker and Jess Parker are light years from each other in beliefs. I think Joe is going to pull out with the new organization. They are well known for their quizzing team.

I believe Joe Parker has been out since 1992. My father was good friends with Joe Parker and if I have my facts straight, I believe he and a group of other ministers pulled out over the affirmation statement. I was a teenager at the time, but I think that was how things went.

Harmony,

you are in Eastern Oregon? Do you know the Duncan's? Titus Duncan is my uncle and he used to pastor in Burns. When I would visit to preach for him I would fly into Boise and we would drive across the Snake and on into Oregon.

Were you joking or did you mix up the names? Joe has been a lib for years. There is about as much chance of him joining the Tulsaites as there is of the Pope becoming Southern Baptist.
