****have You Heard This Song Before?***

Greetings to you all, just curious have any of you ever heard this song?

Why do you bob your hair, girls?
You're doing mighty wrong;
God gave it for a glory
And you should wear it long .
You spoil your lovely hair, girls,
You keep yourself in style;
Before you bob your hair, girls,
Just stop and think a while.

Why do you bob your hair, girls?
It is an awful shame
To rob the head God gave you
And bear the flapper's name.
You're taking off your covering,
It is an awful sin;
Don't never bob your hair, girls,
Short hair belongs to men.

Why do you bob your hair, girls?
It does not look so nice;
It's just to be in fashion,
lt's not the Lord's advice.
And every time you bob it
You're breaking God's command
You cannot bob your hair, girls
And reach the Glory land.

Why do you bob your hair, girls?
It's not the thing to do;
Just wear it, always wear it,
And to your Lord be true.
And when before the judgment
You meet your Lord up there,
He'll say, "Well done, for one thing,
You never bobbed your hair.

Is it set to an upbeat Dixieland jazz type musical style?

I've never heard the song, but it sounds cool.

Jesuswins 10-26-2007 01:35 PM

Did you write it?

LOL ... Actually it's more of a slow mellow type of song ... I get request to sing it at church quite often.

BrotherEastman 10-26-2007 01:36 PM

Caston Smith: Is your pastor Roger Lewis?

Michael Phelps 10-26-2007 01:37 PM

Uh, not even sure what to say here..........lol. It's hilarious! I'm quite sure there are some churches where this song will be sung, and they'll be dancing in the aisles!

I'd love to stay an play and sing for awhile,

But it's time to hit the road and say goodbye

So long farewell goodbye....." - Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

Oh yes, he still is, however we've disaffiliated our church and all license have been dropped.

Jesuswins 10-26-2007 01:43 PM

Why, someone bob their hair?

Sorry, was that too mean?

RandyWayne 10-26-2007 01:44 PM

"Hi Bob!"

Actually it always sang at camp meeting ... everyone loved it you know. One church in particular in Florida, when I go preach for them, they always ask me to sing "It's All In Him" and "Why Do You Bob Your Hair Girls?" ... and well, last time I was there I sang "WDYBYHG?" and one of the brothers got up and started running around the church. LOL ... Glory!

I'm sorry, I can't stop laughing at this image...... And then I see this:

Now I don't know whether to laugh or cry. LOL

It is so sad when the real thing is as bad or worse then a parody you can think of.

And I keep hearing these lyrics sung by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy to the tune of So Long, Farewell, Goodbye. LOL

Is this a serious song, or is it meant to be comical.

I don't mean to offend but I find it extremely comical!!

Are you a preacher? What kind of license did you have? Did you drop it because somebody told you to?
You can expect persecution when you stand for righteousness. Don't let these natterers dismay or disway you.
That song is from back in the thirties I think. Didn't know it was sung anymore.

rgcraig 10-26-2007 02:01 PM

Oh lord help!

What a goofy song and I can't believe churches actually would sing that! Real good outreach there if you have a visitor when you sing that!

Caston - - everytime I see your name I think of Beauty and the Beast, but his name was Gaston.

Bullwinkle, why its nice to meet your aquaintance. While I may agree that the song is neat, I do not think its neat to drop a license (unless of course you can't afford to make the dues). We can go into a long drawn out discussion as to why disunity is just as wrong as "women cutting thier hair", but in the end, no ones mind would be changed. LOL!

It is always frightening to see what some consider to be "persecution". It reminds me of Ruth Reider/Harvey posting a message on a board claiming persecution because of the people who were disagreeing with some of her ideas. Obviously she wouldn't be able to handle a commie or ChiCom jail..........

As for this song being from the 30's.... I think that is where it needed to stay. :)

winklebottom 10-26-2007 02:07 PM

I have always heard that if you are gonna go "running around the church" your eyes better be closed so everyone knows you are in the spirit...not flesh.. what say you???:bliss

RandyWayne 10-26-2007 02:09 PM

I get the sense that someone running the isles to THIS song would be about the same as Bill Clinton running the congregational isles when his tax increases went through.
Same spirit.

Bro. E
If he dropped it just to go with the flow as a "preacher boy" it was a dumb move.
You're not the natterer.
Stand for truth and don't bob your hair!

Yep, makes sense. And I heard of a church that started a no-catchers policy for slayings in the spirit, for the same reason. The "slayings" didn't happen nearly as often, after that. Go figure.
