A Word About Drinking, Drunks, and Those Who Rejoice in Their Sin

Which is worse,

1. A group of backsliders posting about consuming large amounts of alcohol and really enjoying it ?

or

2. A group of so-called Christians (some supposedly preachers) laughing and yucking it up with the backsliders, glorying in the good ole days when they used to get plastered, and wondering what kind of drunk they would be now?

You people disgust me sometimes.

It's one thing to allow ANYONE, including backsliders, to post here at will. Admin has been very kind in that regard.

Another entirely to openly tolerate, revel in, and promote sin. BTW, drunkenness IS sin. Admin shouldn't be required to put up with that garbage.

The whole "it's cool to be a backslider and promote my wickedness on AFF" thing is a little out of hand.

RandyWayne 10-29-2007 11:48 AM

What about us who reject the 20th century tradition that it is even sin?
(And I must have missed the post where people were yucking it up about getting plastered.....)

Give me a break Randy! Go gloat about your sin somewhere else.

Your entire purpose was to debate about whether or not drinking was wrong.

Of course, there are just enough rejects on here to really enjoy that drivel.

How about Dan Alicea's comment, "I've always wondered what kind of drunk I would be?"

How idiotic is that statement?!

RW, there is nothing "20th Century" about drunkeness.

It is clearly a sin to be drunk. period. both OT and NT agree.

What did Paul say? And such WERE some of you! BUT you are WASHED.

Being drunk is a sin no matter what century you are in.

Yes, but you can drink without being drunk. Right?

This statement borders on blasphemy.

I think you should be banned permanently for such saying such a profane thing.

One cannot state that any drinking is a sin. Paul told Timothy to take a little wine for his stomach's sake.

Paul also said a deacon should be a man of little wine.

i do not believe one can use scripture to justify getting a buz or even drinking any kind of hard alcohol (OT speaks directly against it.)

I dont think anyone can suggest that a glass of wine with dinner is a sin.

The issue is not about alcohol in moderation. It is about Randy Wayne glorifying drunkenness, and others wondering what kind of drunk they would be.

How stupid.

Joseph Miller 10-29-2007 12:09 PM

The Bible said that the Bishop should not be given to strong drink.

DividedThigh 10-29-2007 12:13 PM

it is definitely ungodly and sinful to be drunk and imho to glorify it or act like it is a good or fun this is utter stupidity, alcohol is the root of much hurt in our world, being a part of that is shameful. my natural father was a drunk to his dying day and all he did was drink away to entire families, thank god for my foster father, never drank and neither have i, dt:hypercoffee

I was just coming back to clarify my point, there is never justification for reveling in drunkeness. NOR using scripture to justify drinking in general.

I fully agree with you.

freeatlast 10-29-2007 12:16 PM

Man ..I've never wonderd what kind of drunk I'd be....I know, I'd be just like my Dad....a lost one.

Ok, I don't think I even owe you an explanation but for the purpose of others who read this....

God HAS blessed me with a body that can't handle excess amounts of alcohol! Some people with sever problems take drugs, which when combined with alcohol, cause severe sickness. I'm naturally that way with anything over one drink.

Now.... Is there anything else I can say which will keep you up at night?

<Sigh> But I shouldn't because your one of the weaker ones scripture obviously warns not to cause stumble.....

Dude, you're shameless.

Anyone with half of a brain could see you were actively promoting drinking in the other thread. I think that is totally inappropriate here. I really don't care if you think I am weak.

The statements made by you, Daniel, Amazing Grace, and Sister Truth Seeker were horrible.

I just know that if you ever run into me or my kids after drinking in one of those "fine eating establishments" I would prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.

Obviously there are some issues here.... So I will not cast anything else before swine.

Imbibe: 1. To drink, especially alcoholic beverages. 2. To absorb or take up fluid.
From the Latin imbibere (to drink in) in the sense of consuming drink, absorbing liquids, and appropriating ideas.
I bet you would have given Jesus hard time when he made Wine from that water.

Serious issues that should not come from a Good man.

That would be good.

Perhaps you should go visit the "drunks for Jesus" forum?

SDG 10-29-2007 12:33 PM

Get over it PP ... quick. No one was glorifying drunkeness or wishing they were drunk ... Having never been drunk begets a natural curiosity as to what it would be like ... not a desire ... simply a question that will go unanswered at least in my life.

Carry on w/ the show.

AmazingGrace 10-29-2007 12:34 PM

I will not sit and fight about this.. I am sorry if I did not clarify my comments about the amount of beers etc... That was before church! I do NOT drink anymore and wouldnt!!! Think whatever you may, I know where my heart is and so does God!

Have fun!

daniel you are a good guy, and i dont always agree with pp, but he is right about this, if you have never witnessed the devastation that alcohol leaves in its wake then you can treat this subject lightly, but i have and i know it is serious, god bless you my brother, dt:hypercoffee

Apparently, this is a sore spot ... but to castigate us over what you midperceived is ... IMO ....RIDICULOUS.

I tend to agree with Pastor Poster here that the glorying of Alcoholism is entirely improper here. We are not talking one glass of wine with a steak, but the glory of excess that he speaks against.

My Father was a "recovering Alcoholic" and due to the selfism and glory of "higher power" and other psychobabble, I am not sure Dad was entirely right at the time of his untimely death 4 yrs ago.

Emotion on this one hits personally with me. My Grandfather was a drunk. Pure and simple. I am thankful I did not follow this tradition in my life.

Go on and turn another stone there Dan... you even stoop to think Apostolics can be drunkards and get away with it.

Disgusting. :sos

"Ooh, I drink eighteen beers sometimes!"

Let's compartmentalize ... one thing is to get drunk ... and the other is alcoholism .... both are sins ... the latter having far-reaching consequences ... but no one was extolling the virtues of drunkeness .... rather stating what its effects are ... or could be.

Perception?

The words were there in black and white.

There was hilarity on that thread. Joy. A whimsical reminiscance.

Again, if any of these folks ever crash one of my kids after drinking at Applebees or any other "restaurant" I will prosecute them with everything I've got.

Did you even read the whole thread?
