Rules vs Principles

Loren Yadon sent this to me and I thought it was very good no matter which side of the fence, ... the issue, ... the spectrum, ... http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...principles.jpg

HeavenlyOne 10-31-2007 05:19 PM

Wow. I totally agree with that!!

Excellent post. Teaching principles backed up with Scripture encourages and causes saints to grow spiritually. I know a lot of spiritually immature people who have just been following "the rules" and when "the rules" change, they are lost because they are not spiritually strong enough to hold to something on their own. Thank you for posting this.

Raven,

Is Loren writing any book, booklets, articles, etc that are available?

Does he have any outlet for his teaching skills?

NightOwl 10-31-2007 10:20 PM

I think I will frame that, love it. Raised our children on principles and can testify that it works. They are turning out to be "right upstanding citizens", of another world, thank God!

Loren is constantly working on something. He is a very gifted teacher but living in Idaho he seems to be somewhat isolated. Some years ago he was deeply wounded, and though I think he handled it gracefully perhaps if he could teach out once again, he would be a great blessing and also be blessed himself.

Yeah, that's some great stuff!

I'd like to get his book, From an Acorn to an Oak for my teen. Has anybody read this?

Ferd 11-01-2007 06:34 AM

From an Acorn to an Oak is GREAT.

POA uses it for their new converts class, or at least they did 10 years ago. Very solid stuff.

Brother Yadon is awesome.

I have a copy of it in my library which is presently sitting in boxes. I used it years ago in one of the churches I pastored.

Thanks for posting this! I've never heard it said better! :)

nahkoe 11-01-2007 05:06 PM

I'd say he's probably fairly isolated. I think, after reading this, I'd like to visit his church if I ever get a chance.

If you are mature enough to live by principle... then a tv wouldn't do you any harm.

If you are mature enough to live by principle and you choose not to have a tv because of those principles... then you, per your own principles, would not have one.

I am aware that your question was offered in jest but I did find it a little comical that it appeared to completely miss the point of rules vs principles.

With principled living you no longer have to ask if you can. That is the nature of living by rules.

And then, in jest concerning principled living, your post simply demonstrated, yet again, a mindset of living by rule.

That's good. I was hoping so.

Because, if not, then you had completely missed the point.

This is why we see adults throwing tantrums, and parents chasing their children all around wondering why children are so exhausting.

I'll disagree. When I was a stay at home mom and had TIME to parent my children properly by principles, they weren't exhausting. They were charming, wonderful, behaved little people. Now? Oh my goodness. I'm parenting strictly by rules at this point, what little bit of parenting I actually get to do in my busy schedule, and it's not good. Not good at all.
