He's Saudi author and cleric, "Dr." Muhammad Al-'Arifi, who in a remarkable segment broadcast on Saudi and Kuwaiti television in September, counseled young Muslim men on how to treat their wives.


"Admonish them – once, twice, three times, four times, ten times," he advised. "If this doesn't help, refuse to share their beds."
And if that doesn't work?


"Beat them," one of his three young advisees responded.
"That's right," Al-'Arifi said.

He goes on to calmly explain to the young men that hitting their future wives in the face is a no-no.


"Beating in the face is forbidden, even when it comes to animals," he explained. "Even if you want your camel or donkey to start walking, you are not allowed to beat it in the face. If this is true for animals, it is all the more true when it comes to humans. So beatings should be light and not in the face."

"If he beats her, the beatings must be light and must not make her face ugly.



He should not beat her like he would beat an animal or a child -- slapping them right and left.

If I hadn't already heard of this in the "Apostolic" world I would be shocked. :)

I'm reading the series of books about Princess Sultana - true stories of a Saudi royal princess. The stuff in those books is so shocking, it's amazing that it still goes on in this century!! She had to write them through an American author-friend, under a pseudo name, for fear of her family in Saudi Arabia. The women in her country have absolutely NO rights, and the husbands can do anything they want with them or to them, and no one is allowed to question the men. Unbelievable!!:reaction

Inequality between the sexes is one thing...it probably does exist more than it should. Abuse and ridiculous notions about spanking or beating wives is quite another.

Oh, I didn't realize this was a "normal" thing in the Muslim culture... I assumed it was a one-off. I wasn't saying it is normal, but I do know of it happening in the Apostolic world.

I know of an Assembly of God minister who "spanked" his wife in front of their children when she was out of line. But he's a kook. I've never encountered anyone in our organization who openly believes or teaches something like that. I thought you were implying that you had encountered someone who teaches it, like the Islamic Dr. Phil.

Some people are abusive and stupid in private, but they don't instruct others in their stupidity publicly. :rolleyes:

There was an Apostolic pastor (maybe 15 or 20 years ago?) who was advocating that men administer corporal punishment to their wives. My cousin and her husband went to his church. When my uncle (her dad) found out about it, he had a "little" talk with both the son-in-law and possibly the so-called pastor (I'm not sure if he actually talked to the pastor or not). The family is based out of Tulsa, but the incident might have happened in Georgia. I would have to ask my mom for the specific details.

Mmmmm... Did they at least have a "safety word"? And did SHE eventually get to play the role of mistress?

I just beat my wife up with a pillow, but she started it.

So the whole Apostolic church is painted this way because of one incident. Bright, guys...

If they do have more than one wife, I imagine it might have a different effect. I think the women should all agree to misbehave and bring the man to his knees!! LOL!!!

Really. Yes. I mean it. I don't believe there is anything unscriptural about it. She doesn't like it, but I am the man and I am bigger than her, so she'll just have to live with it.





















































































































I beat her to the refrigerator.


I beat her to the soda pop.



I beat her to the cash register at ANY of the local restaurants.



I beat her to the shower in the morning.




I beat her to WORK in the morning.




I sometimes even beat her to sleep at night.





Every once in a while I beat her to the prayer room.





I often beat her to the toilet.






On a rare occasion, I beat her up............

......................the stairs.






Now see here, you CAN'T PROVE there is anything unscriptural about any of this. Beating my wife is part of the joy of living--but there is one thing about beating my wife that is first and foremost.





She makes my heart beat a little faster every time I see her...so my heart beats just a little faster than hers does when we're together. Now, how's that for manliness?

I guess it would probably matter if the culture suggests you are more of a "woman" by the number of children you bare. If you aren't "doing it" then you cant have any kids....making you less of a woman in the eyes of society. So yeah, from that respect it would be punishment.
