It's not that people were in a foul mood; you were just clueless about how racial remarks are ungodly. Whether they were said in a joking manner or an overtly prejudice manner it was just plain wrong! Try to be in a little more sensitive to the spirit of God. First thing... I am going going to assume here that Thad is truly, genetically, half black. Because, if not, then this statement in itself appears racist to me. But assuming that... I move on to my comment.

If Thad is not racist (which I make no accusation that he is although I was thoroughly unimpressed that he would start such a thread and I am from the deep south) the thread assumes a racist attitude on our part.

If Thad is not a racist and if Thad was right about the attitudes in the south etc then why on earth would anyone feed that monster?

Why would anybody make any comment like this which would give any more rise to those types of attitudes.

In fact, Thad himself is rather, shall we say, eclectic and broad minded in his own personal tastes as far as romantic attraction goes.

In fact, i suspect that has a lot to do with his interest in the topic that has generated so much angst for some.

Racism exists. It is vile. It shaould have no place in the church. These are all facts.

But since we all know it does still linger in some areas, it is a valid subject to discuss in my opinion.

Thad is not "truly, genetically" half black as far as I know...but some of the best church musicians in the country...no, in the world are black...Thad is a fantastic organist, thus my insinuation that it must be in his blood!!!! It's only racist if you think it would be an insult to be half-black.

OK Dig...compare the number of Black NBA athletes to the number of, say, Pakistanis or Arabs.

Bub, red and yellow, black and white, we are precious in his sight.

But you are fooling yourself if you don't think there are certain genetic predispositions in different racial backgrounds.

But I know blacks who find these statements stereotypical and offensive.

I just find sitting here getting chastised by a bunch of white folks that black folks are just fine with these things is a little unproductive and one sided.

Thad is like an old friend I had as a teenager. He would be black if he had a choice! He loves black gospel music, and plays the organ black gospel style. He loves the worship style found in many black churches. In fact, I believe his church is 70% black and now has a black pastor!

I know of at least one black friend of mine that is on here but she is a lurker... maybe she will step up and say something... (I don't know how she feels about such statements btw... her response would be an education to me as well)

The church we attend is 50% black... I am falling behind. :)
