Natural Disaster Donations
When natural disaster strikes, what is your favorite charity to donate to, and why?

Re: Natural Disaster Donations
I'm concerned about giving to so many people doing fundraisers for Harvey, because of the scams that abound.
I read this article (below) about the Red Cross, which has long been known to have administrative issues with the amount of donations they receive. A snippet from the article: Dating back to 2014, NPR and Pro Publica have reported that the Red Cross misstated how donor dollars are spent. A study released by Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, concluded that the Red Cross had spent $124 million — one-quarter of the money donors gave for earthquake relief in Haiti in 2010 — on internal expenses. http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-w...ctly-to-harvey Our favorite organization to donate to is the Salvation Army in times of national crises because their overhead cost is one of the lowest, and most of the money they receive actually is used for relief, and not for overhead costs. Just wondering what other organizations you believe are worthy of donating to. |

Another interesting article:
https://www.marketplace.org/2013/06/...-make-donation A quote from the article: Americans give generously. We give more to charity per capita than any other developed nation; more than $200 billion in 2011. But all that money may not be going where we think. The Tampa Bay Times and The Center for Investigative Reporting have released a list of "America's Worst Charities," 50 organizations that raised billions of dollars, but gave hardly any of it to the people who need it. In some cases, these charities gave no money at all. Instead, much of the money went to paying fundraising firms — those people who bombard us with calls and direct mail. Kendall Taggart is a data reporter at the Center for Investigative Reporting. You can see the list of the top 50 worst charities to give to listed at this link. |

Re: Natural Disaster Donations
If I donate, I usually donate to the organization that has the collection box at the cash register of my local gas station or grocery store.
In fact, the only time I did not follow this rule was for the Flint Water Crisis. |
Re: Natural Disaster Donations
Just send your donations to me, I'll administrate it for you all.
