Call for the elders....
This morning, before leaving for the hospital, I drove to the stateline (Gas is cheaper in Ga) and ran into a preacher. He's "apostolic". You'll understand why I put Apostolic in "" in a minute.
I began telling him about my wife and he said that I should bring her to his church for prayer. I said that I would, but its very hard fro her to sit up-right for any length of time. So I said he'd be welcome to come by to pray for here anytime. He told me that the Bible says for the sick to call for the elders of the church. He said that Jesus never went to the sick to pray for them, that they came to him. He said he doesn't go to the sick, that they would have to come to his church for prayer. He doesn't visit his own people in hospitals for this reason. Talk about a slap in the face. What do you all think of this? Have you ever heard of anything like this? I was probably wrong, but, well, I guess I got angry. I told him, "On second thought, I'd rather not have you to come and pray for my wife". Had to do some repenting for my attitude. I know this isn't common among Apostolic people. I've had people on this forum who have offered to drive great distances to come pray for her. What do you think about a preacher like this? Is he lazy or what??? |

The mere fact that you wanted him to pray for your wife fulfilled the "call for the Elders". Goofy. |
Can't say that I really think much about him at all. My uncle has been an apostolic minister for 50 years and has never hesitated to go, no matter how far, to pray for people.

Urrrrggggg! Wrong answer elder.
Just heard a sermon this past Sunday about the father that just "told" that her daughter was dead. He didn't ask Jesus to pray for her - Jesus asked to be taken to her to pray for her and raised her from the dead. |

I have two reactions to this: One is tears over his response to a legitimate request and the other is anger over the arrogance and sheer "religiousness" of his callous, cold, un-christian, stinking....................I can't even put words to how I really feel about this!

Matthew 9:18-25 (18) While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. (19) And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples. (20) And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: (21) For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. (22) But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour. (23) And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise, (24) He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. (25) But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose. (See also Mark 5:35-38, Luke 8:49-51) This is such an absurd teaching. His stance is in complete opposition to Jesus' call to GO SERVE the needs of others. It sounds to me like this "ASPOSTOLIC" was looking for an excuse NOT to go, so he made one up. If he pastors, God help those saints. :sos IMHO, I wouldn't want this guy praying for my house cat. |

LAZY, LAZY, LAZY . . . That is what it's about. Same guys that don't bother winning souls, teaching Bible studies now because people are just going to come in during last days.
Another attitude I have heard many times........"Sheep begat sheep-Shepards don't beget sheep." Hogwash. |
This elder is not showing the spirit a man of God should. Brother, if it were at all possible, I would be driving myself to come and pray for your wife. Gas paid by me and all, that is one of the greatest honors a man of God can be asked.
