GREAT MEN: Who Do You Admire?
"Once upon a time there was a forum that sometimes gets a little carried away with questions, opinions and unfounded speculation about various ministries..."
Let's face it, there have been times when things have gotten carried away here towards the ministry. Thankfully, we've gotten much better in that area. I suspect a huge 'thank you' is in order to the Admins and posters for maintaining a higher level of dignity of late. However, something came to me tonight as I preached for Bro. Ewing in Lake Charles: We DO have some men among us that are priceless and worthy of 'double honor'. Outside of my own Pastor there is no man more revered in my eyes than Bro. Murrell Ewing has become. I now seem to preach for him on a fairly regular basis and cherish the touch of this great Bishop on my life. For a man like myself who has pretty much been a 'loner' most of my ministry it's refreshing to have someone in my life that I trust and respect like I do Bro. Ewing. Instead of questioning the motives or critiqueing the styles of ministers let's turn this positive by taking the time to find someone who we think is worthy of honor. QUESTION: Who is that ONE Minister (outside of your own Pastor) that you have great admiration for? And, in a few words, explain what there is about them that makes you honor them. I wonder if we'll be able to see a lot about the individuals posting by getting a glimpse of who they admire in the Ministry... and why they admire them? |
By the way, Bro. Phil Jones, I wondered if I might by chance see you again tonight in Lake Charles. Someday we're going to get a chance to meet and really fellowship a while!

Outside of my own pastor I really like Pastor Jeff Arnold from Florida. I've heard his older sermons, attended a few of them when he was here in Wisconsin, and he has grown a lot, he has toned down a lot. He's can make you laugh, but he can also make you think. He always gives his testimony, and he's very approachable. He will also stand for truth, name sin specifically, and even stand up to other preachers who have come to act as if they cannot be wrong. He's a cool preacher.

I like me. Who do you like?

I very much respect and admire Bishop Upton. He preaches straight from the Word with Holy Ghost anointing every time I have heard him preach.

I have a long, long list.
J.T. Pugh Paul Price James Groce James Kilgore Murrell Ewing Doug White David Shatwell Chester Wright Larry Booker Ron Wofford Carlton Watkins Marrell Cornwell Martyn Ballastero G.A. Mangun Among those that have crossed over the western slope... Verbal Bean Carl Ballastero I.H. Terry There are more, but that's a start. |
Nate Wilson
Johnny Godair Floyd Odom Crawford Coon Kenny Godair & Larry Booker :) |
I too can think of many.
Clyde Haney David Gray Paul Price Kenneth Haney T.F. Tenney Vaughn Morton But the one preacher that really got in to my very spirit was J.T. Pugh. I've listened to him [in person and on tape] more than any other preacher. From my highschool graduation in 1963 until this present day. Not only were his messages deeply spiritual but his delivery is that of a poet. Non-pareil! Raven |
There are a few, but aside from my Pastors I have had, one that comes to mind is the late E.L. Holley.
He spoke a message and GC in 1985 that wasn't rowdy or loud but spoke volumes in his elderly souther voice. I wish I was able to hear more of him. |
Pastor Don Johnson, Memphis, Tennessee. He preaches the truth in love, and has worked hard in bringing people together.
Bro. Rayford Strange. A inspiring preacher whos wisdom has blessed us all. And the late T. Grady Reece. A prophet who could say more with 10 words than most can say in a lifetime. |
