"It was all a lie"

SCOTTS HILL - At 80, Jack May has had to come out of retirement to work as a buyer in the timber business.
It's not that May hadn't saved for retirement. He owns the Jack L. May Log Co. and says he had more than enough money to retire before he met Virginia
May made a series of loans to Volner that he may never recover.

Volner was a Scotts Hill businesswoman and pastor's wife who is accused of convincing May and other members of her church that she was about to inherit billions of dollars. Several people said Volner reminded them of the character Aunt Bee on "The Andy Griffith Show."
Volner solicited loans from May and others to help with the taxes and lawyer fees on the inheritance and promised them hefty returns on their investments.

But the inheritance turned out to be bogus.

Volner now sits in the Madison County Jail, facing 27 counts of fraud and conspiracy in a federal indictment that says she bilked more than 30 people out of millions of dollars. May is among 28 plaintiffs who have filed a civil lawsuit against Volner and others who they believe may have helped her with the scheme or had knowledge of it. The suit asks that the plaintiffs be given their money back plus $25 million in punitive damages.

Volner kept up the charade about her expected inheritance for six years, according to the indictment.

We need to pray for all these people.

Jesus had 12 apostles and one of them was crooked.
Why are we so surprised when a Christian turns out to be crooked today?

It seems like the ratio is higher than 1 in 12 now a days, doesn't it?

I am not surprised but I am amazed a little at times concerning how people can be so dishonestly brazen when they are in leadership and people in the pews are so easily duped.

...

I don't know if the ratio is any higher or not.
The crooks like this seem more visible.
There are a lot of people who just honestly serve God.

I've seen this happen before in one of my former churches. Pastor's wife and family got loans from a wealthy young lady that the pastor's son had dated before she was saved and never paid the loans back. The last time I saw this girl she was not attending church any where, although I don't know if she has lost her faith in God.

People are just too trusting. They should be cynical like me.

Did you guys notice that this pastors wife had also set up an unlicensed "counseling" service? They said she used this service to find people to get to "invest". Yikes!

Thank goodness most Pastor's and their wives are NOT crooks. Her husband may be a good man. He is in his 80's and in poor health. They had not been married very long so he may be a victim in all of this like the other folks. If so what a shameful way to end your ministry.

Does anybody know if this church is a part of any org. like the UPC, ALJC, etc?
