Vultures At The Beach

I got a pleasant surprise just a little while ago. I was walking my friends dog on the beach and saw two vultures feeding on a seal carcass....

I've never seen a vulture in this city let alone at the beach. We have red tailed hawks...though I have never seen them on the beach. We have ducks and geese and pelicans and even a protected species of piper....

But I have never seen vultures. Two of them so I imagine maybe they nested near by.

As I was walking closer I thought "wow that is a huge bird"...it was black so at first I thought "that is the biggest crow" lol...

But as I got closer I can see the red "ugly" head and it's talons. It had specks of white...almost like it was covered a little with sand. Unfortunately my cell phone cam was not good enough and I was afraid (or wise) to get closer with the dog.
