China invades Africa for Oil

http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/...in-africa.html

A fascinating but long (six part) article posted in Fast Company magazine about why our oil costs $4 a gallon.

And how and why China is getting away with grabbing "cheap" oil in Africa....

A blurb

"Anyone who thinks that kind of ravenous acquisition of resources is a thing of the past should take a close look at the suction China is applying in the sub-Sahara. The region is now the scene of one of the most sweeping, bare-knuckled, and ingenious resource grabs the world has ever seen."

this sure seems a bit far fetched( at least on the surface)

You obviously did not read the article then. :-)

We cannot compete with China for third world oil.

We put restrictions trying to impose moral authority, China does not.

China has 1.65 TRILLION in foreign reserves over 750 Billion of that in US dollars alone.

US has TOTAL of 62 billion in foreign reserves.

Am I the only one that can't open this article? It might be my work firewall.

Re: China invades Africa for Oil

China has been making economic and political inroads in Africa, South America and the 3rd world in general for some time now. They are establishing and entrenching relationships with these countries that are helping them to become the superpower they want to become, while undermining US influence at the same time. All this has been taking place right under our noses while our govt sits on its hands.

(The European Union has been doing the same thing too, in its own way. )

This doesn’t bode well for America’s future. I believe America the sleeping giant will wake up one day and realize it’s no longer the biggest giant on the block any more. Indeed, we may be on the path to losing our superpower status.

True I have stated several times on this forum starting MONTHS ago. For various reasons America is headed to an economic apocalyse within the next 20 years.

We will no longer be THE superpower, and it remains to be seen if we will emerge A superpower.

There are some who think we are headed to becoming on the level of being a third world country. I think that's a bit of a stretch. But I can see us fallign to the level of being a second -rate power, like the Great Britain.

People forget that at the beginning of the 20th Century, Great Britain was the 800 lb gorilla on the block. Now... not so much.

Our national debt is a ticking time bomb. Its only a matter of time before it blows up on us. I believe when that happens, that will be the beginning of the end of the American Empire.

I wish that werent the case, but its clear to me that that's the direction we're headed, and theres nothing to indicate it will turn around.

Surprised our multi-named but uni-dimensionally posting resident expert in Sino-American relationships has not made an appearance on this thread.
