http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html (AVAST antivirus)

http://free.grisoft.com/ (AVG antivirus)

Both are free...

I have used AVG for a few years now and never had any problems with viruses.

We had a thread on this before with lots of links

I use avg mostly now though on my desktop I have avast

Also get free spyware from Spybot S&D

Install it, update it..run immunize first. After it runs the first time it only shows you what is protected and unprotected so click "immunize" again. This protects the browser from attacks

then run the actual spyware searchhttp://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html

For a firewall I use commodo
http://www.comodo.com/

I just install AVG on the new computer and love it tremendously! It found 7 trojans and a number of tracking cookies. These hackers can use anything to attack your computers. You really need a good AV program. I trust AVG.

My problem is, some of my McAfee components are missing and I have to install them to uninstall McAfee. And as my service has expired I am getting no help from them at all in figuring out what to do. I mentioned to my hubby the other night that Wal-Mart has a new Dell on sale for $500, much sleeker than the one I have now. So I am thinking if I can get him to agree to a new one, I can donate this one to someone or some org. that might need a computer.
