Router Advice.

I'm getting the internet service that comes from the cable tv company,I think it's called broadband.
I understand you have a router to be able to run more than one computer on this kind of internet.
Does anybody have any advice on what kind of router to buy ?
I understand Wal-Mart carrys some.

Bro Scott there are many different routers. I would ask the cable company what they reccomend for your home computers. We have 4 plugged into ours plus we have 2 laptops that are wireless.
Maybe Praxes or one of the other resident techies will help you here. :)

Yes thank you.I'm finally leaving dial up behind.
The lady at the company gave my wife a good deal for a year.
It's cheaper than the rate they advertise.

I've heard broadband is FAST. We just switched from DSL to Hughes net this year. We were hoping the cable company would put up an antena here on the island but they never got the approval so this company made a promotion and got many to switch her. We are happy so far except I can't use youtube as much as I would like. :D

Depends on if you want to go wireless. If so buy a wireless router. Unless you have a huge house I would not worry about what kind. Netgear works for me and Linksys are good.

If you plan on going wireless just make sure your computers all have a wireless adapter

BTW just about any internet service that allows for faster connection rates is broadband

As long as it has a USB port you can get a wireless adapter for it. Truthfully, I wouldn't go wireless if I were you. Broadband service works better and faster if you connect via your eternet port (the larger than normal phone jack looking thing on the back of your computer) to the router. I use my laptop wirelessly and this pc hard wired. Even with a faster processor, my laptop doesn't download pages near as fast as this pc does.

Linksys is a good choice.

Newer laptops have wireless built in. Maybe a new PC does too, but odds are it does not
