Some advice

Gang, I'd like to hear your thoughts on something. As most of you know, I work from home, selling insurance. Because of the nature of what I do, I have found that 6 hours on the phone a day is pretty much my limit. Between what I make and what my wife makes, we are keeping our bills paid. However, I am going nuts being in this house all the time, and I want to find a second job away from the house. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, but it definitely has to be strictly part time work, maybe 20 hours a week max. I've been tossing around some ideas, and thought I would share them with you to see what you think. Keep in mind that I live in a small town with very few jobs, and I am not going to drive any distance to go work somewhere part time. Anyway, these are my choices:
  • Gas Station
  • Fast Food
  • Grocery Store
  • Dollar Store
  • Sell life insurance as an independant agent.

I am leaning towards checking out the gas stations, because I've done that kind of work before. I am not sure if one of the restaurants around here would hire me because of my beard. I did work in the meat department of a grocery store a long time ago. The dollar store would be a completely new experience for me.

With the exception of the life insurance thing, none of these jobs would pay more than $7 per hour, but that's ok. I just want to get out of the house. Selling life insurance as an independant would make me more money, but I would have some expenses involved in getting it off the ground. What do you guys think?

I'm not sure what city you live in, but in Houston there are a bunch of websites and employment resources online. There could very easily be tons of jobs that you are not even considering. Many of them have filters that you could use to eliminate any full-time jobs.
I know that at one point monster.com was a big national resource for jobs. Here in Houston I help people find many part-time jobs, and I just want to be sure that you are not limiting your possibilities.

Rico when I was going thru my divorce I had to go to work at a gas station a little one in the middle of the sticks.. mine was because I had to have a job but he was hunting me down everywhere so I had to go to the one place he wouldnt look... however what is so weird about it was that I made lifelong friends there and even able to witness to so many people and it was actually fun!!!! So I would check into it... I did it for 3 months until permenant restraining orders were in effect and really kind of missed it...but I had a real job waiting on me just couldnt go there for the time being

Brother, this town has about 2000 people living in it, including the ones out in the country we can claim. I pretty much named everything there is around here, except for the potato chip packing place. There are more jobs across the River, but I am not going to drive 15 miles to go work somewhere part time, considering the $4 a gallon gasoline. This is a small town and only has small town jobs available. Anything that pays much is in the northern part of the county or in the next county over. I'd be happy with one of piddly diddly jobs this town has to offer.

Become a pastor!

Do not hesitate!

Pastors sleep late, work very little and have zero stress.

The money is always excellent, since all the pastor does is rob widows and orphans.

And the benefits of never having to admit that you are wrong are tremendous for your ego.

Not to mention getting paid to play golf
