Ok, I admit ignorance. Can you help me?

Justin needs a new phone before he leaves for college. We are on Alltel, so I assume we have to buy a phone thru them? Is that right?

I've always blocked text messaging for him up until now.

I'm looking at new phones and frankly, I am overwhelmed! I know he's going to want something kewl. Don't they all?! I see phones that say they can do GPS stuff. Phones that are internet ready. etc., etc., etc. So all of these cost extra if you use them?

So what do you all suggest? Educate me, please!!

Go to Alltel and get a family plan that will allow you to call him without it taking up your minutes. They will have a full array of phones to choose from.

I doubt it, but why do you need to be on the same plan? A lot of companies let you have favorites and they can cross cell companies! So he could still be in touch with you on the cheap...

And don't forget to get insurance for the phone. Usually a $50 deductible. Knowing kids, all kinds of things can happen to a phone.......:)

I've been checking out Alltel dot com. Have you looked at that site? Are there any phones on there that you would recommend?

Are you telling me that I have to buy the new phone from Alltel in order for it to work on our current plan? We have a family plan. I pay $75 a month for all 3 phones. That gives me 1000 anytime minutes to share (that's been plenty so far), 1000 text messages per phone and 10 My Circle numbers. Plus anyone we call on Alltel is already free, of course.

Why do we ned to be on the same plan? See above.
Plus, since college is definately not a cheap thing, we have to keep everything else as cheap as we possibly can. Unfortunately. Boohoo!

I really like the can idea, Prax. Unfortunately, a string from Portsmouth, Ohio (in extreme southern Ohio) to Swanton, Ohio (5 miles from the Michigan line!) would be a very long string. And I just know that some fool would not recognize it for what it is and would get their scissors out and cut it. Rats!
