Just How Powerful is the Borg?

Just How Powerful is the Borg?

Do you ever feel an overwhelming need to assimilate back into it's clutches?

You have a way with words, even if it IS a crude analogy.

In my opinion the STNG two part episode "Best of Both Worlds" Parts 1 and 2 are two of the greatest Star Trek episodes and feature The Borg.

Anyone who really knows much about the Borg knows that it is NOT a crude analogy but actually one right on the money in many instances.

Just as some think comparing the film "The Village" to old time Pentecost is "crude" many others who have come out of it we think it is a very apt analogy.

Just so we're clear, old buddy, I recognize that this is quite likely your well-grounded opinion. I hope that you also recognize, that comparing an entire denomination to a coercive and destructively pestilent alien race, just might be offensive.

Not an entire denomination OP Carl.

PP, this is an honest question, Brother. Why do you stay, if you feel this way about the organization you belong to? Why not find an organization that better suits you or go the independent route?

OP,

I think those looking to take offense will take the analogy too far. I think the analogy PP is making has to do with the Borg being a "collective" and how that their thoughts and actions are synthesized into one.

How they devalue individual thought or action.

From my perspective of having been in the mothership for about half my life and out for about half I think that is an apt analogy of the UPC.

It is a religous sect that seeks to maintain its distinctives through managing a "collective" thought process / approach to extra biblical traditions.

No evil intent like the Borg have but a similar approach.

Who mentioned anything about an organization?

The Borg is an ideological group.

Leave out the UPC and you're correct.

The Borg is interdenominational. It consists of all who seek to intimidate hapless souls into brainless, thoughtless submission to a code of conduct built to empower a few.

So, you're not referring to the dominant mindset in the UPC? Well, maybe not so dominant since there seems to be an exedus of among the anti-tv crowd. What exactly is it you are referring to as "The Borg", and how would someone qualify as a Borg member?
