For gloryseeker; vr blackwell!!!
From another thread that was closed down.....
Gloryseeker's actual post; conversation between VR Blackwell and 1399. I have responded to your assertions, by number, labelled below. Quote:
MY RESPONSES (1) First off, it was Bush Sr that stopped drilling in ANWR from being a possibility, when it was originally sponsored through Congress by a Democrat from Louisiana--back in 1990! The year that Mr. Clinton was involved in all this was a critical year for the Federal budget -- I should know because in 1995, as a military man, we were told that WE WOULD LIKELY NOT BE PAID because the Govt could not pass a budget. We were paid and the budget that was submitted to Mr. Clinton by the Republican controlled Congress of 1995 DID NOT include ANWR drilling funds. (2) John Hoffmeister, Former President of Shell Oil America says it is not worth the time and effort to drill ANWR! There ISN'T ENOUGH OIL THERE for the hassle involved. This Oil Exec. knows better than you or I. However, drilling off of the coast of Alaska could create upwards of several hundred thousand jobs, according to John Hoffmeister. However, the REPUBLICANS wisely banned this in 1990, enforced by an Executive Order, issued by Bush Sr. himself. There is not a politician, Democrat or Republican open to the idea of ruining the only pristine place left on earth for the sake of oil. Which is why we must, as a country, simply move away from being oil dependent. (3) Our "oil dependency" on the Middle East has served the purposes of enhancing our national security by ensuring our influence monetarily. Now that times are hard, we would rather "cut and run" if you will, from the effective policies of the past that ensured our influence in a part of the world where the west did not have much influence. If our Country's Financial "Gate Keepers" were on their watch in a dutiful manner, they would have foreseen this mess and attempted to steer the country back on track. Again, we have gone through 2 financial shake ups in this country while this Admin has been in power. This third one IS THEIR DOING and they need to take responsibility for it. Since the "Middle East" is wise to our ways of influence, we need to find other ways to ensure our influence. Select American "businessmen" are making that their new assignment-- with the blessing of the American government of course. (4) Again, there is NOT ENOUGH OIL IN ANWR TO MAKE BIG DIFFERENCE! The USGS, Shell Oil and Environmentalists all agree on this. Apparently, so did Bush Sr. "Drill Here, Drill Now!" is political curd for the not so educated folk to chew on. it sounds good, but it's not sensible-- according to the experts. (5) I am right. I have actually researched your posting before responding to ensure that I am right. If I wasn't, I'd gladly say, you are right. But I gladly say you are worng because that is what you are: wrong. (6) "By utilizing all resources" we don't have enough money to adequately research and perfect any one resource in a timely fashion. The wuicker we cut our dependence on oil, the better for our nation. (7) There are wind turbines and there are also "Ocean Turbines". This technology is not new. There is something of this sort being built right now to be the power source for Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. "Drill here! Drill Now!" Should be replaced with "Build Here, Build Now!" (8) Technology is changing and moving forward-- with or without America. Let's enact policies that encourage American businesses to be be at the forefront of technology, instead of being behind and reactive to our changing world. |
