KP ... has it right on Holiness ... misguided on the means of salvation ....

From the site ...

notice it doesn't even say repentance and baptism remits, or washes sins .

.. but baptism remits sin ...

My God ....!!!!!!!!!! The Apostles, Peter first among them, are rolling over in their graves ...

Where in the bible does it say BAPTISM REMITS/FORGIVES SIN??!!!!

BLOOD REMITS SIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“without the shedding of BLOOD there is no REMISSION of sin” (Heb. 9:22).

By Kenneth Phillips but dedicated to "truth lover" G A Mangun.

If APHESIS MEANS FORGIVENESS/REMISSION ... both are synonymous then why does baptism alone get equated with the WASHING OF SINS??? ... unless somehow there's power in the water????

SDG 03-28-2007 07:15 PM

The translation of the word “forgiveness” comes from a Greek word Aphesus,and means to bear up and bear away, to separate the sins from the sinner. Fifteen times it is found in the New Testament.

Six times it is rendered “forgiveness,” and nine times it is rendered “remission;” but it always means the same thing, to bear up and to bear away.

I think if asked whether baptism apart from repentance washed away sins the author would answer "no".

SDG 03-28-2007 07:20 PM

The NAS simply translates aphesis as forgiveness ... 15 times.

Colossians 2:9 - 15 (KJV)
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it

If you need me to explain this just ask......:-)
