Baptism question
A Baptist preacher is baptizing down at the ol' swimming hole (as if preachers still baptized down at the ol' swimmin' hole). Another church, a Jesus Name church, arrives to baptize its candidates.
Ol' Billy Bob is a large man, and wants to be baptized. The little Baptist preacher can't quite handle the job alone, and asked the Jesus Name preacher for his help. The JN preacher wades out in the water. At the same time the Baptist says, "I now baptize Ol' Billy Bob in the name of the F,S, and HG", the JN preacher says, "I now baptize Ol' Billy Bob in the Name of Jesus Christ". 1. Is Ol' Billy Bob's baptism legit? 2. How was he baptized? 3. Is it wrong to baptized in the ol' swimming hole? 4. Was the JN preacher wrong for assisting the Baptist preacher? 5. Who won the fight between the two preachers that took place just after the baptism? |
Re: Baptism question
1 - I would say no, because it sounds more like confusion than a baptism. How can you baptize a person in ANY name without first explaining to the candidate what it means?
2 - In the ol' swimming hole. 3 - Why would it be wrong? I might be wrong, but I don't think the apostles and the first century church had heated spas in which to baptize converts. Not sure, though. TIC 4 - I don't think this would happen. No JN preacher would EVER assist a Baptist preacher. What fellowship hath light with darkness? :-) 5 - The JN preacher. Truth always prevails! |
Re: Baptism question

2. How was he baptized? Doesn't matter how or why. If he doesn't understand why he is being baptised in Jesus name he just got wet. 3. Is it wrong to baptized in the ol' swimming hole? No 4. Was the JN preacher wrong for assisting the Baptist preacher? Yes as you tell the story. 5. Who won the fight between the two preachers that took place just after the baptism? No one. |
